Character meal question

First time to Universal and would love to do a character meal. Which is better a breakfast or dinner? Where am I most likely to get to see the minions?

RPR has a breakfast that has Gru and a minion

Have done it quite a few times.

I did the buffet bar and not the menu order.
Believe you can do either one.

Characters (2) walk to each table, pose for pics and will return once they cycle through the resturatant/Jakes.


In the park there is a breakfast character dining.
I did it before the prices increased year before last.

There are some trip reports in the other forum that posts about it and with pictures.


character dining for the dinner hour rotates between pbh, rpr, and hrh.

designated day of the week which can change without much advanced notice.


at the hotel dining, you order off the regular menu and the characters visit each diner at their tables.
chat with the guide and take all the pics you wish.

characters that i have seen include, shaggy, velma, scubby do, woody woodpecker, fred flintstone, besides others.

Is there a specific set of characters like at Disney? Like if my kids wanted to see scooby doo? Or is it just luck of the draw?

As mac said the minions are guaranteed at the breakfast.....it is a huge amount of fun......if you do it you have to leave a banana on your table..........

The character dinners rotate, so you could call the hotel for a specific night you planned to go and find out if if it was the minion and Gru, just a minion or one of the other characters macraven mentioned.

We've seen them all and the interaction is fantastic........

There are times the hotel will not state which characters will be present.
They don't want to get caught in the middle in case there is a change of who will be there that date.


Suggest you go to one of the three hotels for the dinner character dining based on the menu.

You order from the menu and the characters are just an add on for the guests.

They spend time at each diner's table and you can take pictures.
No photographer is present.

Out of the three hotels, I usually go to Island Dining room as i like the Asian flare of menu

Hrh is decent and they used to have a great pork chop on the menu.
Not sure what they currently have for the dinner hour.


Check out the menus so you will know if your family/kids will like what is on the menu

the dinner character dining is just a small perk for guests.

you can call the hotel and ask if they have any idea which characters are supposed to be set up for the date you would dine at the hotel.

They have a rotation for the week and if one hotel has Scooby during dining, possible the others will also for the same week.
but, not a guarantee


the only character food set up is the breakfast at the Studios.
(and minion/gru character at Jakes/RPR breakfast on Sunday)

Scooby is not one of the characters for breakfast

can't remember all of them but if you look at the UO site for character breakfast in the park, it will list them.
can only think of Hip, Hop, and had to be told who they were....

Hotels = luck of the draw but it's 'free', well included in price of normal meal. We had Scooby & Velma the first Thursday in July. Lots of interaction.

The character breakfast is really under-rated. Food is decent, more characters than you can imagine.

The Scooby gang easy to find for photo op in the parks. Lines for sponge bob characters much longer, short window.
We were only able to get one pic per session before they closed the lines.

Sponge bob can be found in the gift shop near ET too throughout the day. Minion pics after the ride, you can take your own pic there as well as a professional one being available.

If it helps any, we went to the Character breakfast in the park at Cafe La Bamba last Summer and we saw, Gru, a minion, Spongebob, Squidward, Dora, Diego, EB and a Pink Beret from the Hop movie.

This is what my sister and I did - to see the minions. She is a big scooby doo fan and was unable to find any meal that guaranteed scooby.

You will see them near the front of the park


I made a list in feb where the characters can be found in the parks

That's where we saw them - they were an awesome encounter
