My DS will be almost 13 when he and I visit in July. Two years ago when we visited, he enjoyed the Character Dinner at the Contemporary Hotel. Is there another restaurant that a boy this age might enjoy?? Thanks for your help!:earsgirl: :jester:

I think you know your son best but I think 10 and 12 are world's apart in what they will like .... most almost 13 year old boys I know would think character meals are not "cool." But I don't know your son!! If he is into characters another good one that alot of people like is the one in the AK with Donald and friends. It's has a little more of a rustic feel.

I would like to make a suggestion of Teppanyaki in Epcot. He may find that cool .... no characters but the chef's prepare your food in front of you and do fancy knife tricks. The food is also straight foward and tasty.

If you let us know more about your 12 year old ... what he likes ... what characters and such ... I'm sure we could be more helpful!

Why don't you just ask HIM????

My dd15 has a major hand in planning our vacation. She looks at menus and we sit and discuss where we want to make a PS. She has favorites (or wanna try places) and so do I. We always have at least 2 character meals. She gets shy. I get her picture with the characters, but she doesn't talk to them much. That's ok. I know, because she helped choose, that she really wants to be there!

Let your son help plan!

Thanks for your input. DS is very in awe of WDW. There are so many choices for places to visit that he is overwhelmed, as I am. You are right I should check to see if this is something he wants to do. I am counting the hours until July!! :earsgirl:

Last year, my then 12 year old ds LOVED the breakfast at Donald's in AK. All the characters were great but Goofy and Donald really played their parts to perfection. If your son is anything like mine, "cool" is the last thing on his mind at WDW. He has as much fun as any five year old at the character meals.
For this year's trip, he has chosen the Garden Grill at Epcot for his character meal. My 16 year old dd chose the Cinderella feast at 1900 Park Fare at the GF. DH and I chose Donald's again so we have three character meals planned for this trip and we are all looking forward to them.

Have fun planning!:hyper:

14 DS loves Donalds Breakfastosaurus.

Other favs of his (but not character meals)are the Morrocan restaurant ( must be the belly dancer) and Biergarten in Germany.

Hopefully someone knows the details but................

I heard you can have lunch with an "imagineer" somewhere in MGM. Maybe he would be interested in that.

I also have an almost 13 year-old DS and we're going to be there in July too. On past trips we've always gone to breakfast at Chef Mickey's but this year I thought he wouldn't be interested.

Well I thought wrong! He was upset that we hadn't planned to go because for him it's tradition....it's been a part of trips for him since he was 2. Needless to say, Chef Mickey's is back on the ps list. Maybe we'll see you there! :earsboy:

I don't think you're ever too old for character meals. Heck, we're all over the age of 20 and we're having breakfast with the princesses on this trip!

I think you should get info on each character meal and let him decide which he'd like to do... I always got more excited about things when given choices =)

Last year I took my then 14 yr old neighbor to MK for a very long day as part of a five day Orlando trip. I thought he'd think the character meals were uncool and just for little kids, but I was so wrong. He enjoyed the Pooh gang at CP, but he really loved the LTT meal. He is a huge Goofy fan, and the look on his face when Goofy came over to our table was priceless. Minnie was flirting with him and he just blushed so much. I got great pictures and we made some great memories. We're bringing his 14 yr old brother this year for five days all at WDW, and the 15 yr old has requested dinner at LTT again, even without Goofy. ( I think he wants another "date" with Minnie).
It all depends on the kid though, I don't think the younger one will get into the magic as much, but he might surprise me too.

My guys are 12 and 14, and they love Donald's Breakfastosaurus. This place is really fun. It has a very casual atmosphere (set up like an archeological digsite camp), the characters are all our favorites (Donald, Mickey, Goofy, Pluto) and the CM's enjoy kidding around.

Another place they love to eat every trip is Sci Fi Dine In at MGM. They love the cheesy old movie clips and the drive-in theming.

My DS will be fourteen on our next trip in August.

I agree with other posters that it's a great idea to work out together where you want to eat.

My DS absolutely loves the 50's Prime Time at the Studios. He likes to "play" with the wait staff about elbows on the table.

He is usually a pretty picky eater but when we get to WDW he eats up a storm!!!!!

Don't know if he wants to do any character meals since it's so far out. But if he does, it's fine with me since I enjoy them also.

Have a great trip!!!!!!

My 18 year old son still loves Donald's in the AK! It's the only thing we can get him out of bed before the crack of noon for.

My Ds is almost 12 and still OK with the character meals. Nowhere near excited as when he was younger but he is still fine with it. He has always liked donald's at AK too. He also likes LTT at MK. He was not really impressed with CM this year. Non character meals he loved this trip were Ohanna's, Prime Time and WCC at the WL. Pooh is not too cool for most boys this age, and he did not want to do the princess either. We did all however enjoy lunch at Cinidy's.
I find kids don't feel that need to be cool at WDW. They almost become little kids again :p .

My DS15 loves the CRT--especially if Jasmine is there! Who said Princesses were only for little girls? It's just sometimes you learn they're getting more grown up than you think! LOL

Both my DS (13 and 14 next time we go in Dec!) love the character meals. We do CP, Chef Mickeys, we even eat at CRT with the princesses. (though I think they appreciate the princesses in a much different way now that they are older) lol
