character breakfasts?

hi all
i have posted this ? here as it sort of concerns uk people

seeing as we will be up early due to time difference(not doing the welcome meeting) we were planning on making an early start and having a character breakfast then getting a head start on the parks
have any of you done this or is it too much to have this sort of fuss on the first day?
also any recomendations on which breakfast to have i would love to do the princess breakfast at epcot but my 2 boys are not having any of it
we are a party of 4, me dh and ds12 ds8

I think a character breakfast is a lovely way to start the holiday, which park are you likely to be in or aiming to be on the first day? For instance if you're doing MK first then Crystal Palace is good or maybe Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary or 'Ohanas at the Poly. Do your boys like any of the characters or are they just less keen on the princesses? We often book according to which characters are at a particular venue.

What we like to do is book it for about 10.30ish and then get to the park at opening, race round for a bit getting all the rides with long queues done and then enjoy a lovely breakfast and rest with our feet up for a bit in an air conditioned restaurant! (Then you can skip lunch too).

However this may not suit you if you think you will be up really early on the first day, you may prefer to do one earlier than that!

On our first day for the last 3 trips we have had a character breakfast at Donalds Breakfastaurus at the Animal Kingdom. You could either do an Early one at 8 am ish and then continue on with the park, or if it is early entry get there for that and then do Breakfast at 10am ish...how does that sound??

We really enjoyed our character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare at the GF last year - it was brilliant, especially since I'm Pooh and DD is a besotted Eeyore fans. The characters couldn't have been more attentive - especially Eeyore who absolutely made by DD's holiday The Mad Hatter was also there (hysterical, not!) and afterwards Mary Poppkins spent a lot of time with Katie.

The food was fabulous, it was great to have the chance to look around the one hotel I WILL stay at one day and we were lucky to be staying at the Poly, so just hopped on the monorail over, then back on over to Epcot after breakfast.

My favourites are The Crystal Palace, Park Fare 1900 and the Cape May Cafe at the Beach club hotel. You can also walk into Epcot from the Y+B hotels via the "international gateway". It's quite spooky (and neat) to walk through the world showcase while it is not yet "officially open" they do ask that you go directly to the parts of Epcot that are open, but they don't hurry you along if you take your time .

I know that Cinder's Castle has great character interaction, but I'm always dissapointed with the food there and I think it's the least likely to appeal to your boys (for a couple more years anyway LOL)

Another vote for 1900 park Fare ,Grand Floridian, we always book for 8.00 in the morning, and basically you have the place to yourself LOL, about 3 othe tables when we went!!.

The food was the best we'd had so far in terms of selection, choice and being fresh!!!

i was trying to be at magic kingdom on our first day my youngest son wants to eat with pluto and the eldest wants to eat with goofy so it looks like chef mickeys would be likely only my dh thinks this will be too loud for him all three of them are not keen to have breakfast at the castle so that counts that out

i have also been looking at doing donalds at animal kingdon(this would suit the boys)but i am beginning to have second thoughts because on reading some reveiws on this place it says that you are rushed and the food is not all that so i really don't know what to do,we will only be having one character breakfast and want to get it right

park fare also looks good it's such a hard decision to make when there are soo many nice places to choose from

We have been to 2 character breakfasts & would say the food was better at 1900 p ark Fayre but it was very nice at Donalds Breakfastsaurus too. We had no complaints & we all enjoyed it very much & didn't feel rushed at all. Because we were in the park we had a later breakfst time. When we ate at 1900 we went earlier &when we left it was much busier with people queueing for tables.

i would say the setting 7 characters of Donalds would suit boys better & we would def. eat there again.

Hi there

The best character breakfast (for us with 2 DD's) is Chef Mickeys. The characters are Chef Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale. The food is brilliant and it is a serve yourself buffet. There is loads of interaction with the characters as they come to your table. And about every half an hour they play this song where you wave your napkin in the air and the characters (especially Goofy) runs and dances around the place.

It really is lots of fun.

Like I said I've got 2 daughters, but they don't like anything too GIRLY!!!

it's so nice to read a positive veiw about donalds i have heard quite a few bad ones anyway i think we are now planning on doing donalds

i have 2 boy's and they don't want to do cindys seriously though one wants to do chef mickeys the other don't my partner is also not too keen on this place either he thinks it will be too loud for him glad to see you enjoyed it though
we have walked around the contempory i agree it's alovely resort i WILL stay here one day

Chef Mickey's is quite noisy but not unbearably so (we enjoyed the atmosphere), sure you will enjoy the Breakfastosaurus (sp?) though.

Chef Mickey's every time
I took my 5 year old DD last year, leaving DH and 16 yr old DS to look at the hotel pool
We've 'done' the Princess breakfast at the Castle (a little too rushed) and 1900 Park Fayre which was fun but DD still favours Chef Mickeys and is desperate to visit the next time we visit.
We booked for 11 am in the middle of August and Pluto spent ages playing with the kids - young and old It wasn't loud, just fun.

If you do Breakfastosaurus, make sure you have the first sitting as the later sitting is very rushed and the characters are less attentive. (Done this 3 times...feel like I may comment.)

We went to Chef Mickey's and would def go again. Characters spent loads of time with everyone (inc the adults) and the food was lovely especially the rasberry and strawberry yoguhurts that they have in the huge bowls. Never had a yogurt that tastes so good over here since. The yog's (low fat, ras and strawb) in pots at the food court in Disney All Stars tasted the same. Loads of flavour and dead thick n creamy. MMMMMMMMMMMM

We have done most of them over the years and always go back to 1900 Park Fayre. It's such a lovely hotel and the food is better than Chef Mickey which has SO MUCH noise.

Yeh, it was great will will be going again and we are going to try another one as well.

What noise ?

The only noise I remember was kids running about chuckling and laughing and having fun, that's exactly what I would expect of any restaurant full of kids. Epecially one full of Disney characters. I don't remember anywhere we went to eat that allowed children was quiet. That goes for the UK, and any beach holiday we've been on as well. Over here if my OH and I go out to eat on our own and we fancy a kid free night we choose a pub or restaurant the futhest away from any children, so I do know what you mean on that score. But I don't think that you can expect to eat a quiet meal in a restaurant full of dancing Disney characters and kids full of the Disney spirit. Each to their own, we personally loved it.

Can anyone recommend another character meal venue that we can try as well as Chesf Mickeys ?
