For a 12 yr old boy, we will be doing a character breakfast before heading to MK. Ive been to Chef Mickeys before, but never the pooh character breakfast(crystal palace?) which is better for a 12 yr old?
Does this 12 YO like interacting with the characters? My DS turned 12 yesterday. He would die before getting up close and personal with anybody but Mickey. Unless you're surprising your boys with the character meal, ask them what they would prefer. They may surprise you and ask for the princess breakfast. My DS thinks that Pochahontas is a "babe".
For a 12yr old boy I would definitly pick Chef Mickeys over The Crystal Palace. I'm not saying I don't like the Crystal Palace (I actually like the Crystal Palace buffet over Chef Mickeys) what I am saying is that the Crystal Palace may seem babyish to a 12 yr old boy since it all has to do with Pooh and friends.
Also, Chef Mickeys is definitly a more party atmosphere and they may celebrate his birthday in a more fun fashion then at The Crystal Palace.
Another fun character breakfast he may like would be at Ohana's. They have Mickey and friends there and it would be a little quieter than at Chef Mickeys (not that loud is bad).
the Breakfastsaurus at Animal Kingdom. Great character interaction and the food is great. Plan it on a day you are going to be in the park. My older kids love it, Donald, Mickey, Goofy and Pluto. The "OLD" favorites.
I too have a 12 yr old DS. We had not been to a character breakfast in 4 years until December. I mentioned that I would enjoy CP but if it would make him uncomfortable. He reminded me that he thinks Tigger is cool. So we went. We went late (10 a.m.) when there were very few babies and toddlers there. We had a great time. Lots of character interaction that was more suited to a "teen". He is a budding photographer. Our server had noticed and somehow managed to get all the characters over to our table at once. She then told him to take Mom's picture with the guys!!! That became the theme for our entire trip: he took my picture with every single character we saw. It was a nice switch and something he loved. However, he did ask that I take a pic of him and Tigger. Our wonderful server, Linda, also took one of us and Tigger. That photo is now framed and in DS's bedroom. Now if I suggested the princess breakfast . . . . now that would be another story. NO WAY!
I say ask your son. It is his time too. You may be pleasantly surprised.
