I read that there is a character breakfast at the “tall” hotel across the street from SSR. The hotel advertises about seven restaurants. Has anyone taken advantage of the breakfast and can you walk there?

I really doubt there is a char breakfast anywhere near SSR. The ones that I know about:

Chef Mickeys - Contemporary - *****
Poly - ***
Cape Mays ****
Grand Floridian ***
Crystal Palace ****
AK - Dinoland ***
Epcot - Princess at Noreway ****
MGM - Not sure where

Baskervilles has a character meal on certain days of the week, I do not know the particulars or if a breakfast is even available. It is in the Grosvenor which is the tall one just across the street from the DTD Marketplace--if you were going to walk, I would suggest taking the bus to the Marketplace and then cross at the light. It is not a bad walk form there. Callthe Grosvenor directly to see what they have available.

I looked at the Buena Vista Pallace website. It might be owned by Wyndam(sp). They advertise a charater buffet breakfast and the picture shows a nice assortment of food with Pluto. I believe this is the hotel directly across from SSR. Has anyone tried this.

I've stayed at the Wyndham twice, and recall something about a character breakfast there. I have not tried it, but it is definitely walkable from SSR (when we took the SSR tour, we walked down from the Wyndham).

Did a quick search, found the following:

Watercress Cafe
The Watercress Cafe offers guests and their whole families a casual environment, a Mediterranean-style menu and great view of Lake Buena Vista. This is also the home of the kid-favorite Disney Character Breakfast.
-No Reservations Required
-Smoking is Allowed

We did not like the characture breakfast at the Wyndham/Buena Vista Palace at all.

I suggest that you go to one of the characture breakfasts at the parks. Just have your day start with breakfast there. There are tons to choose from and while they are close to where you are starting from, they are right where you want to end up, so to speak.

Also, if you use the dining plan, almost all of the character meals are only one TS.

We're doing two on our May trip, both of them dinners, because it's one TS whether it's a dinner or breakfast. I think it will be a great finish for the day.

We stayed at the Grosvenor back in 2000. The hotel was very nice for the price, but I WOULD NOT recommend the character breakfast. The room they have it in is HUGE and they only had two characters back then. So basically you eat and then wait and wait and wait for the characters to make it to your table. I say walk to DTD and take a bus to GF or Contemporary for Chef Mickeys or 1900 Park Fare, also the Polynesian has a character breakfast at O'Hanas.

If travel to the Character Breakfast is an issue you might want to hear our experience:

We stayed at OKW last visit and on our first morning headed off to Chef Mickey's (CR) before the crowds started out for the parks. We had planned on taking the bus to MK and walking down to CR. Since we had the bus to ourselves the driver asked if we were headed for Crystal Palace. On hearing our answer, "No - Chef mickey's", he diverted his route and dropped us off at the door.

I just love those purple pants people!

We stayed at the Grosvenor in '97 and they definitely had character breakfasts then - it's the only one we've ever been to (we have no kids) and I won't forget it in a hurry.

My DH isn't big on character interaction. In fact, he absolutely hates it. When we sat down for breakfast the restaurant was fairly empty, so Chip and Dale were wandering around entertaining the few guests that were there. When they got to our table I chatted to them for a bit, and they then turned to DH. He mumbled something, hoping they'd go away. They didn't. One of them pointed at DH's bacon and eggs, presumably to ask if it was tasty. At this point DH looked up and said "It's chipmunk!" I was mortified.

They left us alone after that.

Thanks for all the information. I will be at SSR the first week of May. I will try to get by the Palace hotel and check out there ammenities. I will post upon my return.

Don't bother. We call it the dungeon (though they have changed management since then). And as far as amentities go, there is absolutely nothing special about them.
