Changing your UY?

Yes, another UY question. I did a search but I didn't find what I was looking for.

Can you change your UY? Or would you basically have to sell your contract and repurchase with a new UY?

They changed the way banking works which makes your UY more important. My UY isn't ideal for the new banking rules. I would have gone with a later UY if these were the rules when I purchased!

I have 2 contracts, both Feb UY, and we tend to travel Oct and Dec.

Yes, you would have to buy a new contract with 160 pts from disney or buy resale with the UY you want.

You'd have to sell and rebuy. Many points systems allow you to do this for a minimal additional retail purchase but DVC hasn't gone that route. As a rule it's not worth it to do this if all you want is a different UY. The only time it's reasonable is if you just have to change home resorts OR you are downsizing considerably. Otherwise the extra costs, usually about $20-30 a point extra, are not worth it. Better to add an additional UY and few extra points than to sell and rebuy in most cases.

We had the same problem and went through the hassle of selling and rebuying since we wanted the majority of our points in the VGC. Luckily we sold our two smaller SSR contracts last year before the market took a dive so we were out the sells commission and we were planning on buying VGC anyway.

I have one more small (100 pt) SSR contract that we'll probably sell as I don't really enjoy having two different memberships.

We typically have quite a few (banked, current, borrowed) points tied up for each WDW trip as we have extended family with us so the banking deadline change made traveling in Oct/Nov very risky.

I guess it comes down to what you'll be comfortable with, the risk of needing to quickly use points before the end of your UY or paying the additional cost to sell and repurchase.
