New to the forum. I was wondering how do you go about changing resorts in the middle of a trip? How does it work? (Besides, booking it). Do you have to find your own transportation? Any help or advice woulde be great. We are planing to stay at the Coronado for 3 nights and then the Poly for nights.

Disney will move your luggage for you. Just check out of CSR, have the bellman take your luggage and they will transfer it during the day. I believe they say your bags will arrive by 5:00 but I know from my own experience that can be delayed. It was once after 7:00 before I got my bags, so now I make sure I keep out anything (meds, swim suits for the kids) I may need sooner. There is no charge for this service. I have done this several times and will do it again next June. Its a great way to experience other resorts and they make it pretty easy for you to do so.

The only scenario that makes switching resorts complicated is if you have a package with park tickets, room and the dining plan. I am not sure how that works as far as your park tickets work and your meal credits. I have only done this for room only reservations. I am not sure how or if you can switch resorts on a package.

As far as switching using a package - if you have the dining plan, the credits will expire at midnight the day of check out from the resort the dining plan was booked with.

The remaining days of park tickets can be switched to your KTTW of your new resort or you can continue to use your KTTWs (for park tickets) from your original resort.

As per our signature, we have done many split stays with ease.

Hi:

We enjoy split resorts, while some do not.

This December we are once again doing a split stay... AKL to WL...

You will have several decisions/options on how to make this work best for your family.

1) Do you want to make it a leisurely day or do you still plan on going to a park?

2) Do you want to use Disney Bell Services to move your luggage or move it yourself?

Here is what we do...

We always check out early because we still want to get to a park at or near opening... between 7:00 - 8:00AM... plus you avoid alot of people checking out... so it's best to have your stuff pretty much packed the night before... We take our luggage and grab a cab, usually around $20.00 plust tip. We checkin... if room is ready... great... if not, have bell services store your luggage and head to the park of your choice... This works really well for us.

If you do not plan on heading to a park for the day then you can make the move at a more leisurely pace.

Have a Great Trip,

Mark

What about checking into the room at the end of the day.Maybe even around 9:00 or 10:00 at night. Will the room already have been assigned a few days before. Will I be more likely to get a crummy room checking in this late?I will go ahead and transfer bags in morning.

To Be honest I have not switched resorts that late in the day... Hopefully others can provide you with their expierences on how this worked for them.

Based of what I've read on these boards I gathered rooms were assigned a few days out... Is that really the case? However, I would think that you would have a better chance of getting moved (same day) if your room us not up to your standards the earlier you checkin...

When I did split stays - only twice I wondered about checking in later but in my heart of hearts - with no stats to back me up - I believe you get a better room if you check in early. So I went to the 2nd resort with my luggage.... A bit of a hassle but much easier than I thought it would be - and the second time I went from CSR to BWI in the rain!

I like the idea of taking a taxi to the 2nd resort though - may do that the next time I split a stay, though I am now leaning toward settling into one place and not packing and repacking - one of my least favorite activities...

I don't remember seeing taxi's at the resorts. Do you arrange this with the resort as for a time to get a taxi? What is the standard fee?

No standard fee, I have never paid less than $10 or more than $14. You have the doorman call a taxi for you....
