We're staying at POP one night (room-only), then switching to AKL (pkg w/dining). I want to check in at AKL early in the morning to get our park tickets. Is it easiest to take a cab rather than a bus to a park, then the resort? Should I just take the luggage with me if I go that route? At POP, can I request one of those luggage carts in the morning so I can get all the luggage to the cab (I will do this myself - no need to drag DH and the kids all over the place - I'll meet them at a park or back at POP)? Thanks for any advice on this... :upsidedow

A cab will run you about $20, with tip, and given your circumstance, I would say, that yes packing up and moving yourself with a cab sounds like the way to go.

Wouldn't be easier to take the luggage to the bell desk and have them transfer to your next resort. We had a split stay back in march from AKL to Contemporary and they transferd all our bags for us.

With or without luggage, I would take a cab to get from resort to resort. You lose lots of time having to use the WDW transportation system. If you are going to take the cab anyway, I would then take my luggage with me. On a previous trip, I did the same thing you plan to do re: checking into the second hotel early in the day. In retrospect, I did not like the fact that I was going to the second hotel to check in, but my luggage was not coming until later. If your room is ready in the morning (which it may be), then you can get the luggage right into it. If not, it will be stored at AKL until your room is ready

I plan to take a cab. I would much prefer to have the transfer completed in 20 minutes or so. That way I can get on with my day, and not have one more thing to think about.

Wow, i've found yet another great reason to feel good about renting a car during each of my trips. We'll be doing 1 night at ASMo then 7 at AKL. We chose ASMo due to being right down the street from AKL. We plan on having the luggage transferred from ASMo to AKL, however we already have our tix so we don't need to go pick them up at the resort and waste time in the morning. If we did though, we'd still get our luggage transferred and just drive to the resort to pick them up.

The cab will definetly be quicker than WDW transportation. The cost of the cab will be worth it to save time so you can get your quality time at the park you will be visiting that day.

Looks like we'll be there at the same time CJsMom.Have a fun trip and hope to see you at AKL.:thumbsup2

Thanks for all the responses! Looks like the cab is the way to go. If I don't feel like dragging all the luggage around with me I'll have bell services transfer it. We won't be back at the resort until late afternoon anyway so it doesn't matter if we don't get the luggage until then. Raven69david - maybe I'll see you at the AKL! Are you going to a MVMCP? We'll be there on the
11th.

I am also changing resorts and planning on taking a cab. I have never used a cab at WDW before. Will I need to call the cab myself or will they do it for me at the resort? I've never noticed anyone using a cab while at the resorts. I'm sure they have been, but I was probably just not paying any attention to it. Thanks

If you give your luggage to bell services to transfer, do they put it in your room? Or do you have to pick it up at the bell services at your next hotel?

Thanks.

OP, I think a cab is the way to go unless they have the early breakfast bus running that could drop you off at AKL. You might want to consider switching from POP to one of the All Stars though as they're much closer to AKL than POP.

Usually there are a couple cabs waiting at the resorts, but if you don't see any just ask valet/bell services to call one for you.

You can pick it up or you can call luggage services once you get to the resort and ask them to bring it to your room.

Thanks for this suggestion marivaid - I just looked at the map and I can see that the AS resorts are closer. I don't know why I thought POP was closer to the AS resorts. I think I will try to switch to Sports. I don't dare stay at Movies - my kids will love it too much and won't want to switch to AKL!!

We are switching from the Poly to a BCV studio. That morning we had planned on letting Disney our luggage and were going to check in after spending some time at BB. We were going to do the EMH morning at BB. Which option do you think is better:

1. Let Diseny move the bags, go to BB's EMH with a bag of clothing for after swimming then take the bus back to the BCV and check in around 3:00.

2. Take a taxi with the bags to BCV, check in at 7:00AM (probably won't get the room assigned), take the bus from there to BB for EMH. Won't have to take the bag of clothing with us.

We have a 6:00 ADR at the Yachtsman, should I be concerned about having our luggage arrive in time to change for dinner?

If you have specific room requests I would check in early. I think it would be more likely that you would get those requests. There's never any guarantees of room location - but it makes sense that more rooms are available the earlier you check in. In my case I have to check in early to get our park tickets - but if I didn't need them I'd probabably check in early anyway. DH will take the kids on the bus over to Epcot from Sports - and I'll take the bus over to Epcot from AKL after I check-in and meet them there. Hopefully it will be that easy! :scared:

We'll be doing a resort move ourself on our upcoming trip, and I read something that may be of help to you..........pixiedust:

If you decide to have bell services move your luggage to the new resort, make sure to pack a small bag or backpack with your bathing suits, and pool stuff, and take it with you when you check in to your new resort. After you check in (if your room isn't ready yet), you can leave it with bell services at your new resort, so that you have the option to go to your new resort and use the pool in the afternoon even if your luggage has not arrived yet. I've read that it may take until later in the day for your luggage to reach your new location, so being prepared for that possibility makes it all O.K.

Chances are your new room will be ready by the time you go to take your afternoon swim, and all you need to do is grab your "pool bag" from bell services and enjoy! :goodvibes

Hope you have a wonderful vavcation :flower3:
