changing party size

Is it a big deal to change party size once you get to the restaurant? I have a ressie for 5 people but it is probably only going to be 4. Should I call or just do it when I get there?

Chances of changing it before hand (if it is a popular place) will be pretty slim. Personally since it is only one person I would do it at the podium. Now if it was 2 or more I would try and do it as soon as I know that way others have a chance to catch a 2 people adr.
You can always try to change it and if you can't then just wait.

No things happen. When we ate at Ohana in March my BFF and her family were coming to meet us, well her DH couldn't get off work so it left us one short. I didn't know until we were already there waiting for her, so we just told the waiter when we were seated that one of our party couldn't show. It was no problem.
I have read where others on the boards have had sick children that stayed back at the hotel and just informed the CM at the podium and there isn't a problem. They were still seated.

No they will not. You might wait a few extra minutes if they can rearrange to put you at a 4 top instead of a 6 top but you will not be turned away. Things happen all of the time. Our last trip, our oldest son and daughter in law got very ill and missed a few of our meals. It was never a problem at the podium.

What about just adding one? My dh wants to have lunch at Sci-fi and for the life of us cannot get a adr for three but can for 2 for our dates. I made other arrangements because I did not want to show up with three and be seated at one of the picnic tables or turned away

On our last trip we had several meals that we had booked for 5 but at the last minute MIL decided she didn't want to join us. We also had 2 ADRs for 4 where she decided at the last minute to join us and we never had a problem adding her at the podium in either instance.
