I've been looking for hours, so I'm sorry if this is a repeat post:

I have booked most of our ressies for 3, but may end up only being 2. Should I try to change them when we know for certain, or should we just show with 2 if it comes to that?:confused3 I think I'd rather be booked for 1 too many than 1 too few.

Thanks for the help

Hey one of our groups is in the EXACT same situation. I just called earlier and had to reduce the number of three down to two on the reservation, but there is no way I am going to change the number on thier ADRs. Just too much trouble and grief. I know that the wait staff had better not even try to give them any grief over this when the realize that there are two instead of three!!! They will really get told off if they do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I wouldn't get that worked up over it. Inviting trouble when there's none to be had.

Decreasing your party size is much easier than increasing it. For a party of three, most likely you are already seated at a table for four (there are some tables for three but that's besides my point). So having two people sitting there is not going to be that big of a deal. Also, trying to get a table for just two is not that easy to do. Leave everything the way you have it and when you check in, say it's only for two. You will be fine.

It's when a party tries to go from one size to the next and it requires another table added. That's where the problems come in.

thanks, I figured it would be a lot easier to go down a person instead of up one.

Not to make anyone nervous, but I have had trouble with this in the past. We went to 50's prime time cafe once and had had 7 in our partie reservation. Well only 5 of us went and the head waitress threw a nutty and wouldn't seat us. We waited over an hour because she wouldn't give our table to just five instead of 7. I was LIVID. My friend's husband was even more livid and asked to see a manager. We got free booze out of the deal. LOL

I called to get a reservation for 1900 park fare for dinner for 5 and they only had a reservation available for 6. I couldn't believe they would give me one for 6 but not 5. Heaven forbid Disney lose their $25 seat.

You know, that's kinda funny because I knew that one res. is definately only going to be 2 & tried to have it changed when I was making others. The CM told me there was nothing avail. for 2, so leave the ressie for 3 & tell them there were only going to be two of us when we checked in at the podium. How does that make sense? :rolleyes1

Oh, I am not really getting worked up about it, but I have read other post like one of the above where the staff has gotten very upset by this. We just had one person opt out not to go due to work and that really can't be helped.

This happened on our trip just a few weeks ago. We had family joining us for the day (they live near Orlando.) I had already made ADR's for the eight of us (five of us on the trip, 3 "day" visitors) at Cape May Cafe for dinner. Then we find out that our relatives had a 6pm bus to catch to get back home, and they wouldn't be able to join us for dinner. We were in kind of a bind, being last minute and all, so we just showed up to dinner without the three of them. It was no problem whatsoever. The restaurant was very accomadating.

Thats good to hear!:)

While, I would never intentionally make a reservation for the incorrect number, there are circumstances that restaurants realize are out of your control. People get sick, have emergencies, etc that prevent them from showing up. I can't imagine a restaurant getting bent out of shape over one person out of 3 or 2 out of 6-7 not showing. Heck, from what I've read on here, some people don't even bother showing up at all. Now, if you told me you had made ADR's for 3 and brought 6 people, then that to me would be an issue because that can affect other diners wait times. Restaurants deal with minor changes all the time. But anyone who shows up with more or less people than they originally made ADR's for should be prepared to deal with a possible wait.
