Changing/Locker Rooms?

First cruise is finally coming up next week, and through my tireless research I keep coming up with one question...

It is recommended (sp?) that one brings a bathing suit in your carry on/day bag if you want to go swimming on the first day before your luggage arrives and your room is ready, but where can one change into and out?

We didn't bother. I wanted a late boarding time so we did not have to lug our booze bag around for hours. We literally arrived, did the terminal thing, walk on board, went to our deck and within 10 minutes (they dropped the ropes) our room was ready. Then is was reserving tickets, etc. Then the muster drill, then sail away party then dinner. I don't know how people pull off pool time in that lineup. But I have been on these boards a few years and it seems like most people wear their swimwear when they board under their clothes.

Id wear your swimsuit with a shirt, and women wear their suits under their clothes. It took my daughters and I a while to change clothes in the 2-3 stalls by the pool- the line was LONG. Then you can go to your room and change once its open. Just make sure you have the clothes you need for the afternoon in your carry on in case your luggage isnt there yet. If I was going to do it again, I'd find a restroom in another area of the ship to change. If there are only adults in your party you can change in the spa locker rooms probably.

We had plenty of time to swim with our early PAT- onboard by 1130, we brought food from the buffet poolside while the kids swam and ate in shift and did the slides several times. I got all of the character greet tickets, dinner reservations, and spa appointments I wanted online before hand, so no lines! At 2 the little 2 took a nap with dad while the older one and I played in the kids club until muster drill.

Unfortunately I am flying in from New York that morning so with temperatures as low as they are I will not be able to wear my swimsuit on that day.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

adults can also use the locker rooms in the spa. And if you are changing in a bathroom, there are plenty around the ship. No need to use the ones by the pool.

We never do the pool thing during the first afternoon. It is usually really crowded and not our thing. Being your first cruise, I suggest that you skip the pool, enjoy lunch and then take the time to walk around the ship and figure out where everything is. Rooms are open at 1:30. Check out your room, unpack if your luggage arrives quickly, go to the muster drill and then enjoy the sailaway party.

Bring a small carry on with bathing suits. There are lots of restrooms besides the ones on the pool deck. If you have to wait in the terminal before boarding there is a big one there. Or just go down a deck or two by the pool and it won't be a problem. Have a great cruise.

@DisneyNewbie76 You can just change in the airport bathrooms if you want. We do that sometimes. You can wear your suit under regular clothes or a sundress. Then, we like to have lunch at Cabanas (we always do an early PAT) and we're all enjoying the pools by the time other people are just arriving. Like @5Texans , we still have time to go to guest services or wherever else to check on availability of anything we're needing. If you don't want to change in airport, change in spa would be my advice.

If you wanted to be efficient- there is a restroom at the port so if you wanted to pack your swimsuit in a daybag (or purse) you could change after checking in and while you're waiting for your number to call before boarding.

I will second the "lots of bathrooms" around the ship. Most people would head towards the ones by the pool and stand in line like a prior poster said, go up to Palo (Classic ships to change - Kids too). Or down to the movie / theater / adult entertainment district rest rooms. Quick elevator trip, no line, no water on the floors ....

Can a person go to cabanas in a wet bathing suit? Or will changing be necessary? I'm thinking that people who'd hit the Aquaduck first thing will be limited, as they would want to eat after and perhaps not want to stand in line for the bathrooms.

Ah! So there's no problem for a young teen in shorts/bathing suit and a t-shirt being able to eat at Cabanas, then, either? I just assumed there would be a no bathing suit rule there.

Well, you can't just walk in wearing a bathing suit. You need a cover up of some sort.

@FigmentSpark You would def need flip flops or some sort of footwear. But covering up your suit, I've seen people wearing bathing suit tops with shorts, as you mention, is fine. My bathing suit top looks like a regular halter top, so I wear it with a long skirt (or a pareo). Some of Cabanas' seating goes outside towards the pool deck , and that's where we like to eat anyhow (in the sun with the an ocean view, ahhhh) , it's pretty casual in Cabanas. But yes to a cover up.

I echo the yes to a cover-up.

But seriously? If your butt is wet, do NOT sit in a seat someone else could use later if it wasn't soaked. If you're going in wet, plan to take the food out to the tables by the pool. If you want to eat IN Cabanas, either swim after or change before eating. It's basic courtesy.

OR bring your towel to sit on if you feel you're still too wet on one of the hard seated outdoor (not cushioned like inside) chairs on the sundeck outside of Cabanas. No need to change your clothes in the middle of enjoying your pool time.

The towel is acceptable for the hard seats. But I maintain if you are going to sit on the cushioned seats, the polite thing to do is change out of a wet suit. (And the same thing goes for changing out of them before sitting down in the theatre for Muster. My father had the misfortune of sitting in a seat a wet butt had been in during Muster and it was NOT fun.

I think Cackyshmakers context in that post was a little muddled. I read it as: "OR bring your towel to sit on, if you feel you're still too wet, on one of the hard seated outdoor (not cushioned like inside) chairs on the sundeck outside of Cabanas." I added commas.
