changing flights with Southwest

Do I understand right there is no fee at all? You only have to pay the difference if the new flight costs more?

Is it a pain to do? Can you change airports if you want?

I am trying to plan a family trip, but we are not sure of the dates. And some family may or may not go, and the trip may or may not be early or late May. But 2 of us really want to go, so we are thinking of booking tickets, and then changing if the rest of the family decides to go.

That is correct no fee's. YOu can change airports, flight days/times and no fee. Now if you cancel you do not get the money refunded unless you bought a fully refundable ticket. The money from the canceled ticket will be put in an electronic travel funds that can only be used by the person who name was on the orginal ticket.

Keep in mind that flight prices will likely be significantly increased and availibility decreased if you change tickets at the last minute.

and the travel electronic fund money has to be used for a new ticket by the one year anniversary of PURCHASING the tickets, not the date of travel. We have some travel funds for my daughter that will expire in June and only she can use them (she's over 18). She's having a hard time working out school/work schedules. I guess there's an extension fee that can be paid but I don't know how much or how long that is for. I love SWA for their flexibility. We have a flight next month and I was able to move up our travel times for no fees and also adjusted points used when the rate went down.

SWA ... the current fee for a extension of *travel funds* is ... $100.00 for a 6 month extension.

Prior to our last trip I changed the 4 of us to a later flight(so we could have the last day in a park). It was super easy and I just paid the difference in costs.
