I am trying to change my flight times on the Southwest website. When I check the Southwest it gives me a price of $79, however when I put in my confirmation # to make the changes it gives me a price of $190. :headache:What am I doing wrong? :confused3 I have never had problems making changes to my Southwest flights before?? :sad2:Have they made changes to the system??:sad1:

Are you doing the initial price check for the same number of tickets you are trying to change?

Everything is exactly the same. The only thing I am changing is the time of the flight.

How many passengers? If there are not enough $79 seats for your entire party it will not show the lower price.
You might do better by cancelling your first trip, and re booking with the lower rates by breaking up your passengers. Go in first to see how many $79 passengers it will let you book. For example try 1 passenger, then try 2 and so on until you get the higher rate, then you will know how many $79 seats you can book.

Probably not enough $79 for your entire group. Rarely SW offers a fare which requires a R/T purchase. Might be an issue if there isn't availability for both legs of your trip.

There are only 2 people that are traveling. When I go on the Southwest web site and try to make an original resi, I get the $79 price for the 2 people. But, when I go to try to change our flight times it still shows the $190 price. Is this something I can change over the phone with an agent?

I would call them and see. Or, and this would be a pain, and could mess you up. Have the $79 reservation ready to buy, and cancel the other flight. YOu would have a credit to use that you could apply to the $79 one. Now if you had bought early bird check in, not ideal as that wouldnt transfer, and you dont always immediately get the credit to use. It can take some time for the credit to come thru sometimes.

$190 sounds like the total fare for 2 passengers. Does the quantity column specify 2?

The $79 fare doesn't include 7.5% federal tax, 3.70 segment fee, $5 security fee and any PFC.

A $79 fare should cost around $95 with the fees.

I tried it thinking the $190 was for 2 people... nope that is not it either. I am going to give them a call and see if I can't fix it that way.

Thanks so much for all the tips.

What is your return fare? $190 is the fare for two passengers (@$79) or the R/T fare if the fare each way is $79.

I called and spoke to an agent who was VERY helpful!!! :worship: She canceled the return portion of my flight (even though I had purchased round trip) while I was online rebooking. She walked me through the entire process and she canceled at the return flight only when I was able to rebook (so that I did not loose my price).

Just one more reason why Southwest if my favorite!!!:love::love:

The total for the return flight was $179.40 for the 2 of us. :cloud9:

:thumbsup2 Thanks to all on DIS for all of your help. Even though I am a Disney vet... I use this site before every trip. I would be soooooo lost without all of you. :thumbsup2

Just FYI - the EBCI will transfer if you change your flights. I changed my return after I booked the ECBI, and it showed up as soon as the change was complete.

That is good info to know. However, I did not purchase EBCI for this trip. It is just my husband and I  so seat selection is not vital to us -- no kiddos to worry about this time. I will be able to check-in online at the 24 hour mark on my phone so even if we have upper # in the B's we will be fine.

Thanks!!

As long as your conf# stays the same it will transfer.

from the SW site

If an EarlyBird Check-in Customer chooses to change a flight, will the EarlyBird Check-in options transfer to the new flight?
It depends. EarlyBird Check-in is tied to the Customer's reservation for which the EarlyBird Check-in purchase was made and will be transferred to the Customer's new flight if he/she changes the flight at least 25 hours prior to the original flight's scheduled local departure time and so long as the change is to a flight that will depart in more than 25 hours. Since EarlyBird Check-in is associated with a reservation, any changes must be made within the same reservation record (same confirmation number) in which the Customer purchased EarlyBird Check-in.
