Changing at Seven Months - Do I need to cancel first?

Thank you very much for this information. I believe we need to use two different browsers. I think that is the main thing we must do.
I hope you were still able to get what you needed.

I think you're right and yes, I was able to get what we wanted. It was nerve-wracking though, hitting that cancel button on our original ressie, before having the other ressie booked. Good luck to you if you decide to move.

I highly doubt anything I want will be available but I'm going for it if it is.
Thanks!

In case anyone is wondering, multiple windows of the same browser will still only keep one "session state". Thus, when you open a second IE window (for instance) log in, and cancel the reservation, THAT is now where the session is. Then when you go back to the first IE window, whatever you click doesn't match up to where it thinks you were previously from the other window and it errors out for security reasons among other things. There are some 'tricks' to getting around this, but I certainly won't even try to explain them or how and why. BY FAR the best way is to just open a different type of browser as has already been mentioned. That way you're guaranteed to be in a completely different session on each and, after you hit "cancel" in that second window, the first window be affected.

Is that true even if you're using the same type of browser on two different devices?

No, that would be separate and would work fine.

When you open two Firefox (for example) windows, even launching individually from the start menu, it's all the same instance. Think of it like the tabs. A separate window is functionally equivalent to a different tab other than how it's displayed on your screen.

Does anyone know if member services has the capability of holding the new room first , then cancelling the old one to use those points to book? In the past I have never lost a reservation while cancelling and I swear I have had the cm say first let's snag the room then we will switch it over or something to that effect. if we have a way of doing it it seems like ms should be able to also.

There was one upgrade to the system when they seemed to be able to. Then after the next one they couldn't. Some say a supervisor still can though but I don't know if that's true or not.

So should I ask the cm if there is anyone available who could complete the transaction without chancing losing both reservations. I have the feeling they will say take your chances or stay with your original booking.

interesting, i had no idea you could be logged in on two different browsers.

This is one of the best things I have learned on the dis.
So, I am going to come into work and open two different browsers on my one machine. I love the dis!

Thank you all so much!

I am not very tech savvy can you download a second browser on an iPad?
Yes, you can download Chrome or some other browsers. Do you have a smart phone? I'd cancel using the browser on the phone and book with the ipad.

We will be traveling. I will have an iPad and an iPhone and my husband will have a nook that I could possibly use also. Would it be better to use the iPad and the nook so the browsers are not both Safari?

I have Chrome installed on my IPad. You should be able to open both Chrome and Safari on the IPad.

Im not familiar with the nook, but I've cancelled using my iPhone before. You just have to be sure you scroll all the way through that disclaimer message so you can check the box before it lets you click the button to cancel.

I'd be weary of using two browsers on the iPad, only because I've experienced pages refreshing when switching between applications. That could cause a problem.

::yes:: I'd be concerned for the same reason.

Hi all and thank you again for the advice.
I am going to try to change my THVs to another location if something is available.
I am VERY nervous LOL. I will be doing this, hopefully, on Thursday.

I will have to cancel my reservation. Should I do day by day or in one shot.
If I did day by day, I would cancel the day and rebook the day for the new resort?

What does this mean when member Supersnoop says:
"It works only if you would have to borrow some of the points to make the new reservation if you did not cancel the exisiting one."
Does above mean I cannot follow below?

I will be on ONE computer but use Internet Explorer and Mozella Firefox....will this work?
I will sign onto DVC member site with IE and FF

On FF I will go to my existing reservation and get to the page where I cancel.
On IE, I will start to set up a new ressie and click to get to the availability page. If I see what I want and don't faint,
I click to get to the page where I am now holding my reservation for 20 minutes.
I have two 2015 DVC Points left and 0 for 2016. I have a September UY

Below is from supersnoop, can I do this since I have two 2015 points and zero 2016 points.
"The points shown will be those left without the ones from the existing reservation. Choose the applicable contract(s) and the Borrow icon should come alive. Click on it to bring up the Borrow window and then do nothing"

Return to Firefox and cancel my reservation. I do absolutely nothing except the steps needed to complete the cancellation....IS THIS CORRECT?

Return to Internet Explorer "Cancel" in the Borrow window. The page will refresh itself and show all your points from the cancelled reservation.
Now I continue as I would in choosing contracts and doing all the steps necessary to complete the new reservation within the remainder of the 20 minutes allowed...IS THIS CORRECT?

Also, what time can I begin this scary process?

Yes, that's all correct. Before 8 am, you can get the one window ready to cancel, and log into the other one. You submit the reservation search right at 8am.

You cannot cancel day-by-day if your reservation is all one number. But if you see all the days you want, you're golden.
