Changing a reservation once it has started?

There may be a couple of situations where I might want to change the last day of a 3-day reservation after check in (assuming the alternate room is available at the last minute). It would be for more points.

The “book” does not address this situation. Anyone ever do this or been told what the policy is.

I guess I am trying to decide if to break the reservation up by having a different primary renter (I know I will not be guaranteed to stay in the same room) for the last day.

Thanks

I'm not understanding the question. Are you saying you want to change reservation types or room types midway through a trip without first booking it that way? You can do that if the different room type is available and if you have enough points in your contract to do so.

The above statement is the one that confuses me. I'm not sure what you are trying to do there.

Section about breaking up the reservation was just an alternate since I have not been able to find any published information about changing the end of reservation after the check in date.

if the new reservation is for more points and available - think you can do it.

if for lower points you can still do it - but don't think you will get any points back.

The rules state that if you cancel a reservation on or after check in, you forfeit all of the points. So if MS views this as a cancellation and rebooking of the last night(s) of you stay, then I think you could end up forfeiting the points for the unused nights.

In other words, all points allocated to a reservation are considered "spent" as of your check-in day. If you decide to check out early and move to another resort, you don't get a refund for the unused nights, according to the rules. Now as to what MS would actually do in this case, I don't know.

We were just at BWV, scheduled for a 1BR BoardWalk view for six days and a 1BR standard view for two days. On the third day, one of the CMs at the front desk told me that they had a 1BR BoardWalk view in inventory for our seventh day and that I should call MS right away. MS immediately changed that night to BoardWalk view and left the eighth night in the standard. It helped us out a lot because our son had had that stomach virus that went around, and it gave us an extra day to get him well and enjoy the parks without the hassle of moving.

So, it is possible to "change" a reservation once you're onsite. Just make sure you have a MS representative who knows what he or she is doing.

It'll be case by case but technically you would lose the points and you'd be up to MS mercy as to what they will allow.

Thanks for the answers, it looks like one of those that works sometimes and not others. I guess I will try to make the reservation split in 2 pieces and take the chance of having to move.
