Hi!

I've been trying to 'modify' a dining reservation for 4 people to 5 people. No availability. When I do a search for 1 person, I see availability for a table of 1 within 5 minutes of the reservation for 4 people. Yet, I'm not able to modify the reservation to 5 people. Do you think there's any use cancelling the reservation for 4 people, and trying to book for 5? I don't want to lose the reservation for 4 people, but wondered if this tactic could work to get a reservation for 5?

Book the 1
keep trying to modify
if not, show up early and grovel to sit together

where is this adr? Advice might change

Don’t drop the reservation for 4. The reservation for one would be at a table that seats 1-2 people. The reservation for 4 is at a table for 4. If you have 5 people you need a table that seats 6, which won’t suddenly become available if you drop your table of 4 unless you’re at a restaurant with communal seating and even then it may not because the reservation you are seeing for one isn’t in the exact same time slot.

Thanks for the input! I'll keep trying for a reservation of 5. If I can't get it, we'll hope they can accommodate us at the restaurant? We're trying to get 50's Prime Time Cafe if that changes the advice? Thanks for your help!

The advice still applies. Book the ADR for one and let it go if you find you can modify your original for 4. The restaurant will try to seat you together if at all possible. You know that you all have a seat reserved and you can ask for the accommodation at checkin. I have done this numerous times and have always been accommodated. Conversely, I have booked a single ADR for a larger party and we have been separated. You just have to Be flexible.

Or try for 6. Five are going to have to be at a 6 top and they don't penalize you if 5 show up instead of 6. You aren't taking up anyone else's space by doing it that way either since it's rare to see a 5 top so you would be seated at a 6 top anyway.
