Changes to The Mummy- I don't like them!

I am SO glad I was able to experience The Mummy before the changes. I went on it this past weekend and was thoroughly disappointed. I liked it before when it was darker and didn't have all the video stuff. It seems like they really toned down the fear and thrill factors. I also like the old souvenir picture better. This is just my opinion, so don't get mad at me if you like it now!

All the video faces and video, and being able to see the track and floor. It was darker before. There also wasn't fire on the wall anymore, only on the ceiling. My teenage sons rode it over 25 times our last trip. They only rode it twice this past time because it wasn't the same and didn't do it for them anymore.

There have been no changes. The fire has always been on the ceiling, never on the walls. Possibly, the animatronic of Imhotep was down when you went which happens from time to time. In that case they just use a projection for Imhotep. But it is usually only down for a short time.

As far as it being darker before, nothing has changed there either. Here's what happens, if you enter Mummy and get right on the ride, your eyes haven't adjusted to the dark yet and everything seems darker on the ride. If you wait in line a long time, your eyes have adjusted to the dark and you can see better so it looks lighter in there.

Love the pics of the kids. When I first when WDW, my kids were 9 and 11. My daughter (9) saw all the characters and decided she wanted to be a character when she grew up. Well, she's nearly 15 now and decided to attend Julliard! LOL

When she was five she wanted to be on Broadway when she grew up, but wanted to work at a dolphin show at SW during the down season! LOL

I also remember the fire only being on the ceiling, not the walls, when I rode it in July and August.

Whew! I was worried when I saw reports of changes. So glad it is not so. Thanks for setting us at ease, Phamton.

You've given me an explaination that makes sense for this ride.
The first time we rode it, we waited in line awhile ( depsite FOTL HRH passes)
Perhaps we had unrealistic expectations from the hype of this newer ride, but the our first ride experience was kind of under whelming. My teens and wife felt it a bit short, and lacking in adrenaline, save for the last 10 seconds or so.

The next day, we repeated it, and walked right on...no line...no dark adaptation. It seemed much better and presented us more thrills and surprize, opposite the previous day's exprience.

I agree that, without dark adaptation, the ride seems darker and is much "edgier".

None the less, my family still rated Mummy behind HULK, DD's, and Spiderman.

Everyone I know that rode it last year remembers the fire on the wall. It was on the left. I haven't seen the videos before. I rode this shortly after it opened and it's NOT the same. So says everyone else that I know that rode it back then as well. Also, I have never walked right on the ride to experience the effect of my eyes not adjusting to the dark. I've always waited in the dark, therefore my eyes were adjusted. There IS a difference between now and when the ride opened.

I've been going on the Mummy since it first opened and have probably 20 rides on it, and have never seen fire on the walls, only on the ceiling

Isn't there fire in the treasure room also? Maybe that's what mickeymousemommy was referring to. We rode it numerous times in June and noticed that a couple times when we rode it, there was no fire on the ceiling and sometimes we saw the video projection; perhaps due to technical problems or maybe attendance was down and they were trying to save money on gas? :confused3

Yea, on the left is the screen where the "girl" tells us that she hoped we had a good ride, and then the shadow of the Mummy sucks out her soul. It's all behind a screen on the left side, so there can't be fire there. And even if you read reviews from when the ride first opened they talk about the "ceiling of fire".

Another person here chiming in who has ridden the ride many times since it Soft Opened and there was never fire on the walls, and really no changes since the ride opened.

Memory is a funny thing. My son was on the opening crew of the Mummy and worked there until 3 months ago. Both Slacking and I rode the first day of soft openings and many, many times since (probably over 200 times). There has never been fire on the wall, only the ceiling. There have not been any changes since soft opening except the addition of the animatronics and also, the first couple of days during soft opening, you got wetter. That's it.

the only video changes I've ever seen is when the first imhotep AA isn't working, there's a projection they run. I've been riding it for two years now, and I don't remember any fire on the walls in the fake unload room either.

Yes, there is. But it has absolutely nothing to do with fire or darkness. That scene is the same as it ever was, and so is the lighting.

This is the way that we remember it, only not quite so grainy....lol
Thanks for the link! That was a GREAT video! In the video you can see the fire in the treasure room before you go backwards. So, yes I do believe there is more fire than just on the ceiling. Also, there in the fake exit area, where the ceiling is on fire, there are some sconces on the wall. One is clearly visible on the right in the video and I saw two straight ahead also. They all had fire coming from them. Maybe that's what she's talking about.

Yes, there is fire in the treasure room but it is nowhere near a wall. You also don't go backwards in the treasure room. The room you go backwards in is the scarab room and there is no fire on the wall. There are torches in the false unload area which are still there but there is still no fire on the wall, just the ceiling.
