Changes to Norway?

The part of the story everyone seems to have neglected to read:

It was a rumor six months ago and it's nothing more than a rumor now. Worrying about Frozen taking over Norway is like being excited about a new villains park.

I didn't neglect to read it, that's why I asked if anyone had heard any more about it. I certainly hope it doesn't happen. In my opinion, it's a bad idea. The movie however, does need updating. The attractions in EPCOT should be about the countries, not movies.

I wouldn't mind some "Frozen" elements being added to Norway, but not the entire section being remade. Long term, that's not a good idea. I know the movie is wildly popular right now, but 15-20 years down the road there's going to be a different movie the kids are squealing over.

Couldn't agree more with your post.

I certainly hope they do not completely redo the Norway pavilion into a 'Frozen' themed pavilion. Why bother calling it Norway after that if it is to happen?

The elements to me should be temporary as well. To your point, in five years, Frozen will not be the 'It' movie it is now and if they completely redo the Norway pavilion in Frozen, that would permanent. Until they decide to redo it again and for what? To cash in on something they are already making billions on now?

And yes, I understand it is just a rumour for now.

If anything, they should have added a Lion King ride based around Africa.

Frozen is the #5 highest grossing film of all time, worldwide. It is the #4 highest grossing animated film in US history, and is the highest grossing Disney princess film by far. "Long term" I would expect it to show up in more and more places.

I would be shocked to not see Frozen heavily featured in the parks in a permanent manner. Just like Lion King and Toy Story (3) (the only 2 Disney animated films which have grossed more in domestic box office), I would expect to see Frozen heavily featured in multiple parks for many years to come.

Arrendel is not a real place. it is not Norway. A m & g or dining experience is fine. A ride? No.

I agree with all of you it should be about the country and traditions of Norway, but I do want to point out there is actually an Arendal, Norway.

The article says that all they would leave that actually pertains to Norway is a shop. Does that mean the end of the bakery too?

I'm starting to completely despise Frozen...

I agree.

If they gutted Maelstrom in favor of "Frozen", I don't think I would ever go back to Epcot. Not because there isn't anything else to do, but because this would completely destroy what World Showcase was supposed to be about.

Considering how underwhelming Maelstrom was for us, I welcome a change.

I love the feel of Maelstrom how it is. I hope they don't change it.

I don't know... I don't see what all the hype is about Frozen. It doesn't compare to any of the popular Disney movies, in my non-important opinion.

It's a short boat ride. It fits right in with what World Showcase is supposed to be. It was never meant to be a Super Headliner, but it's been a very popular mainstay of Epcot for about 25 years.

Man, am I sick of "Frozen". Big deal. It made a lot of money. So did all the Transformers movies, and those are complete piles of crap. The hype around it will die out as soon as the 5-10 year old girls have another princess to go ga-ga for.

Go to Rotten Tomatoes and look at the aggregate ratings for Frozen from both critics and audiences. Now pull up any of the Transformers films and look at their aggregate ratings from critics and audiences.

Now tell me how your comparison makes any sense.

Horrible idea. Frozen doesn't belong in the World Showcase. On a similar topic, Lilo & Stitch doesn't belong in Tomorrowland.

Is there a Kingdom of ARENDELLE? I don't believe there is. It isn't a real place.

I might be in the minority here but I think this would be horrible. I really hope they don't change it but know it's probable since the rumors seem to be on the strong side.

You're certainly not in the minority. Does the ride need a clean-up? Yes. Should the movie be upgraded? Yes. BUT, NO more movie over-lays!! Thank you.

sonofanarchy only stated that they all made lots of money (which is true). The post did not say they were comparable in any other way.

I hate to hear this. In our trip there last month, Maelstrom was one of the few attractions that had not changed a bit since I was young.

But having said this, the Norway pavilion/Maelstrom ride could certainly use some updates. However making this a Frozen pavilion with "just a hint of Norway sprinkled in" is a horrible idea. It goes against the grain of what Epcot and World Showcase are supposed to be about. And if that problem is the fact that the Norwegian government is not willing to invest in the pavilion, they should find another country that is rather than using it as a place to market another movie. Save that for MK and HS. Don't get me wrong... Disney movies are great. But when I stroll through World Showcase, I do it for the fascinating experience of learning about the different cultures; not because a Disney movie was set in a certain country.

Norway with just a hint of Frozen sprinkled in would be much more acceptable/appropriate.

Please, no more princess based rides. Trolls were good, my sons like the troll boat in Norway. Just my two cents. Carry on.

Nothing real yet, just a lot of prevailing rumors. But WDW is probably very aware that anything Frozen related is going to make them tons of money.
