Changes to Norway?

Anyone heard anymore about this? I am a fan of Norway and Maelstrom. I'm not thrilled with the prospect of it being changed, lol. I'm hoping we can go back before it's changed (if it actually ends up being changed).

I might be in the minority here but I think this would be horrible. I really hope they don't change it but know it's probable since the rumors seem to be on the strong side.

Definitely "looks" like it will happen, but we are still in the "strong rumor" stage.:)

Agree that this is still in the rumor stage. I like Maelstrom, but wouldn't mind if they changed the movie at the end of the ride. Most folks walk through and skip it anyway.

The countires in Epcot are about the countries, not movies that might possibly maybe be placed there. If they want to do a Frozen display it should be done at DHS. I do agree that the movie at the end of Maelstrom could use some updating, but I don't think making it about Frozen is the answer.

The article says that all they would leave that actually pertains to Norway is a shop. Does that mean the end of the bakery too?

I'm starting to completely despise Frozen...

I wouldn't mind some "Frozen" elements being added to Norway, but not the entire section being remade. Long term, that's not a good idea. I know the movie is wildly popular right now, but 15-20 years down the road there's going to be a different movie the kids are squealing over. If anything, they should have added a Lion King ride based around Africa.

According to the same video report, plans have already been drawn up for the big Frozen refurbishment, and the current Maelstrom could see its final boat launch this October (which would line up with reports claiming that FastPass+ availability for this attraction has been cut off past August).

Fastpasses are definitely NOT cut off past August. We have them for the 24th and 26th of September. And cutting Norway down to just the shop? There'd be mass protests if the bakery disappeared and there was no more school bread!

Thank goodness I'm not the only one!

At least Frozen is kind of, sort of, based on Norway and some of its architecture, dress, customs, etc.

It is better than a ride about Mexico with 2/3 of its main characters being an American duck and a Brazillian parrot. And the only Mexican character is a rooster known for his pistols, 3-foot wide sombrero, and heavily exaggerated accent.

I read the part about the shop to mean that they are going to consolidate the space. Right now the retail area has several sections - it is a lot of square footage. I can absolutely see them paring it down without touching the bakery..

Definitely not the only one. It was a cute movie, but the mania surrounding it and the notion Disney might turn Epcot into another place to promote it aggravates me to no end. Anna and Elsa at Akershus should be the ONLY representation they have at Norway, period. That I've read reports of "Let It Go" being sung by Voices of Liberty is just too much.

The part of the story everyone seems to have neglected to read:
but keep in mind that none of this is official or confirmed by Disney.

It was a rumor six months ago and it's nothing more than a rumor now. Worrying about Frozen taking over Norway is like being excited about a new villains park.

Arrendel is not a real place. it is not Norway. A m & g or dining experience is fine. A ride? No.

I think the idea of a Frozen-themed ride at the Norway pavilion is fine (just like a Three Caballeros-themed ride at the Mexico pavilion), but I think that renaming the entire pavilion from Norway (a real place) to Arendelle (a fictional place) is taking it too far.

Me too- I thought it was a cute movie, but I still prefer Tangled over Frozen any day!

I like Norway how it is. WS is one of my favorite things to do at wdw- I love learning about the countries, many of which I'll probably never see in my lifetime. I love talking to the people from those countries who are here, etc. We are some of the very few who watch the movie after maelstrom- the scenery is gorgeous! And - I love the boat dock setting right when you get off the ride.

Agreed.

Doing this would essentially remove one of the national pavilions in World Showcase, replacing it with almost nothing but Frozen-themed stuff. 3 Caballeros in Mexico was different, as the animation was simply added to the existing ride films, and the rest of the Mexico pavilion remained intact. Besides, the Mexico ride wasn't nearly as popular as Maelstrom. This sounds to be a far more significant change to an entire pavilion, making one less representative nation in WS. I hope at least the Stave Church can remain (with the mini-museum inside it). This is very sad to me, if it comes to pass.
