I called this morning to use the code and POFQ was not available on our dates for the discount. So, I figured we'd just stay at Pop for the 4th time. We like it there. And bam... Pop wasn't available either! But POR was. So, we switched from POFQ to POR and saved $520 with the code.

But I'm scared! I've heard POR is so huge and spread out and long walks and bad bus situations, etc. The reason I chose POFQ was for it's small size and because it's the first bus stop. But for $520, come on! Of course I switched.

Can someone please tell me I'll love POR? :grouphug:

We've stayed at both POFQ (this past May) and POR (old Dixie Landings) a long time ago (1996). We loved them both. POFQ was great for the closeness of everything. However, the walk around POR was beautiful, so if you are farther away, the scenery is just magnificent. There are winding pathways with flowers everywhere. I actually enjoyed the walk. Bus service at POR was not too bad most of the time, but at POFQ it was great being first on.

I think for the money saved, you are doing the right thing! Have a great time!!!!

I have stayed at both POFQ and POR and prefer Riverside. The grounds are beautiful. I always stayed in the Mansions section so the walk was very easy. Other than DVC resorts this is my favorite.:goodvibes

I just changed our ressies last night. We were booked at POFQ but couldn't get an AP discount for our dates. So we just switched to POR. We stayed at POR last year and loved it. I couldn't justify spending the extra $$ just for the sake of staying somewhere new. I agree that the grounds are gorgeous and it really isn't all that much of a walk to get where you want to go. I have health issues and the size of the resort wasn't a problem.

You will be fine. POFQ actually has a very “motel” feel to it, at least to us.

We stayed at POR in April and toured POFQ. We were VERY happy that we picked POR. The bus issue was not a problem. The mansions, the pool and the new food court were light years ahead of what we saw at FQ.

We are going back in Jan 08 and want to try a new resort that we have not stayed at and POFQ is not even on our list after seeing it in April.

We stayed at the POR in May and loved it. We also stayed in one of the mansions, bldg 85, and it was close to everything. The bus situation was not bad at all. I would recommend using the main bus stop. When we took a stroll to the POFQ, we were so glad that we were staying at the POR. The POR is so beautiful and relaxing. The food court is really good as well. Enjoy!!

You will love POR! We've started going value to save $$$$, but given even a small windfall of cash, I'd quickly switch to POR. We've stayed in Bldg 17 facing a quiet pool. I was amazed at the tranquil, luxurious landscaping.

You just can't beat the Duck and Bunny "families" you will pass on your way down the winding paths that lead to the food court/pool/shop area.

We loved it, hope you will too!

I also changed from POFQ to POR this morning for the same reason! We already had a AAA rate that saved us over $200, but when the VISA discount came out, I called our TA to see if it would save us more. She called me back this morning and said that POFQ was not available for the additional discount during our stay, but POR and CBR were. It saved us another $200 + to switch to POR, so I did. :guilty: The only reason I changed (other than the $200 + savings) was that we would still be able to use the POFQ pool, as that was one of the big reasons we wanted to stay at POFQ, as well as for the smaller size and quaintness of the resort. I was really looking forward to staying at POFQ after reading all of the nice comments here on the DIS, so now I'm looking for really nice comments about POR. :goodvibes

Regardless, we will be happy and excited to stay at POR and this will be a new resort for us. Afterall, we'll be in Disney! So we will LOVE it!!

I agree with everyone above POR (Dixie as me and DW still refer to it) is the best. With my 2 in college now at the same time we can't afford the moderate, but we do go over for breakfast and dinner at Boatwrights. And a beautiful place to take a walk along the river. And also not a far walk up to the pool at POFQ.

POFQ is our favorite but POR is a close second. My only advice is to stay in the mansions and close enough to walk to the main bus stop. When we were at POFQ last christmas I felt so sorry for the people at the second stop. The bus was often full before we got to that stop and they would see the bus and stand up but we would have to keep going. I must have been so frustratiing because that happened more than once. Have a great trip.:)

We stayed at POR for the first time in Oct. We loved it. Yes, it is large, however we didn't find the walk daunting at all. I suppose it depends on your particular situation.
We enjoyed the food court and our first morning our breakfast at Boatwrights was yummy! (Stuffed french toast, eggs benedict, omelettes). The rooms were clean, mousekeeping was good. The only issue I had was that we were in a room that had an adjoining room - meaning their was a door between ours and the next room (locked of course). We could hear our neighbors who were loud and did wake me up a couple of nights when they returned late. Nothing that we couldn't handle though and certainly not worth complaining to the resort about.
My sons enjoyed the pool at POR. We loved the boat ride to DTD. The resort's landscaping is unreal. It didn't seem like we had to wait long for busses to arrive and usually to the parks we were able to sit. We caught our busses at the North Depot rather than the main entrance. If we went to the main entrance, it was usually more crowded.
Coming back from the parks was a different story. Most nights we stayed til park closing and the ride back was always standing, due to the hordes of people returning!
We were very pleased with the hotel in general. I think you'll like it if you prepare and go with an open mind! ENJOY! You'll be at WDW!!
