I used to make my reservations at OKW and other resorts as soon as possible in order to have the best chance to have my requests honored. I used to take an afternoon flight and arrive at suppertime after my groceries had been delivered.

Because rooms are now assigned on the spot, I will no longer order groceries (makes it harder to refuse a room), leave on an earlier flight, and make all my reservations as late as possible to leave me more flexibility in my point use.

How has this policy changed your thinking?

Hasn't changed my thinking at all, since I have always arrived around noon, and don't see that arriving earlier than that gives me any better chance at a "best" room. I think they are still assigning rooms, because they always seem to know what room I will be having, they just don't tell me until it is ready.

It hasn't changed our planning or vacation patern either. We still try to get there as early as possible and leave as late as possible. I also question whether there has really been any type of major change in the room assignment policy. I have been a couple of times since this new "room ready" policy went into effect and I haven't seen a major change. Of course I have been during busy time periods and that could make a difference but I have had CM's who have checked us in and looked at me like I had two heads when I mentioned the new "room ready" policy.

We have always tried to check in as early as possible, especially for long stays. The one time we checked in mid-afternoon (BWV, May 2002) was a disaster. There's a late flight on Saturdays (cheaper fare), that gets us there about midnight. I book a Priceline room near the airport, pack accordingly, and hope for a short car rental line. As soon as we get up the next day, we go check in. Diana

If you arrive with groceries and your room isn't ready yet, does the front desk have someplace where you can keep things cool?

A couple weeks ago at VWL, they had rooms pre-assigned. I had hoped they would use the room ready policy, but they didn't. All 3 of our requests listed with Member Services were honored, though. :)

When we were ther last month- our rooms had been preassigned at BCV and BWV- early arrival didn't help us at all. They would not change the room once it was assigned.

They will refrigerate your foood for you if the room is not ready for you.

Our room at the BWV (December, 2003) was preassigned.

This room assignment thing seems to be so hit or miss that I'm not changing anything. For example, like karebear1, I was at BCV and BWV last month. But when I checked in to BCV, I was given a choice of rooms, front desk CM described them in detail (not just "both Epcot view" but specifically what I'd be seeing-Canada from one, Spaceship Earth from the other). And at BWV, although my room was preassigned and I checked in relatively late (6:30 pm), I had a lovely view that met all my requests. So for now, at least, I plan to keep whatever travel plans I've made, and take my chances!

The 2 times I have checked in since room ready started my room was preassigned (May at OKW, early Dec BWV). Both times the rooms met my requests (or close).
