change paid reservation to free dining?

If I am within 45 days and booked under another package, can I change to free dining if the price of the package is greater (b/c I am adding an extra person)?

Yes you can make any changes to your reservation but if you are within the 45 days (like you said) there is a $50 fee.

You can make changes to a package even if you are within 45 days of arrival. If your total package price decreases, you will be charged a $50 change fee. Disney usually waives this fee if the total cost of your package increases. With that said, I have read reports that Disney is now charging a fee of (I think) $15 for any changes made within 7 days of arrival, regardless of what it does to the total cost.
