Change in plans... what do we do?

We have a 2 bd villa reserved at VWL for 5/4-9 because we were taking MIL and FIL with us. Well, they can't make it now and we don't need a 2 bd for just us (me, DH, DS-4, and DD-almost 1). I wouldn't want the kids all the way over in a separate bedroom.

If we change to a 1 bd now, and we're within 30 days, wouldn't we have to find a use for the excess points? Would they even allow us to consider the 1 bd part of our 2 bd reservation? Or would they only search for available "dedicated" 1 bd? We requested a lockoff.

Has anyone ever "sub-let" during their vacation? We could let another family use the lockoff'd studio... but I am concerned about how that would work, especially with room charges, etc.

What are our options?

Thanks!!

You would be cancelling the two-bedroom and re-booking a one-bedroom, if available. Any excess points would go into a Holding Account. Reservations made with these points can only be made 60 days in advance of your trip and the points cannot be banked into next year.

I think subletting to someone you don't know is a bad idea and not worth the hassle.

Other people on the boards have reported that MS is currently not putting points in holding accounts at cancellations, due to the war. I'd call MS and see if you could rebook without the points going into holding.

Mur!

Good news for you, the above post is true. I just finished cancelling our trip for this coming week. Because of the war, my points would be going back into the regular account and not the holding account. I rebooked the entire trip to August with no problem. I would hurry up though, as I don't know how long this policy will hold as the war seems to be winding down.
