chances of switching to Poly studio at 7 months

If you have the points available - then absolutely yes!
That's how I was able to get the last week in Sept - I booked a day earlier, then cancelled the first day.
So maybe it would just be better for me to book the day before then cancel the first day. I might not need a whole week leg up.

I just REALLY want to get the poly for first 3 nights, lol. I'll do what I gotta ;)

do you know if there are more lake view or standard view? it doesn't much matter to me, just wondering which I should shoot for.

There are exactly 4 times more standard view DVC studios at Poly than lake view (288 standard/72 lake). Luckily for you, since you're not picky and obviously have the points for either, the availability tool on the DVC website will tell you if either are available at the same time when you get ready to choose.

Right now both are available. I can see that it would be hard to tell what books faster, fewer lake view but how many people want to save points and book standard. It's a crap shoot I guess. but I can check availability at 7:30AM or so and see if it even is available. how nerve wracking :)

is the week in question pop warner week? makes things more difficult for the times i've checked.

Have been surprised to see the Poly studios still open for majority of trips I have booked at 7 month window, but usually not standard view for entire stay. Never switched since I try to stretch our points for multiple trips per year.

Used to be able to easily switch to BLT, but have been shut out for the last few years.

Well, I am trying to get a Poly studio for one night in October and so far no luck. Tomorrow is my 7 month but I have been trying to secure one by walking the last few days and no dice. As of right now there are lake view available for my date tomorrow so I hope I get one, though I really want standard view. It's maddening. We are trying to stay one night, a Friday night. The only availability is at SSR, OKW, Kidani, WLV, Poly lake view, and BWV standard view of all things!?!

IF both are available tomorrow am I'm not sure that I can bring myself to spend the 10 extra points to stay at the Poly where we will be listening to boat horns all night. I wanted to stay somewhere new this time, but we loved our stay at the Boardwalk last time, and chances are we will end our one night at Epcot or HS.

Walking is not guaranteed at seven months out because owners at that resort could book any days right out from under you if they wanted those days.

We were able to get 10 nights at the Poly for September/October standard view. We really wanted Lake view but at the 7 month mark it wasn't available. If you get in right at 8 AM you should be okay...but don't delay!

Just tried to get October 7-10 at the Poly. Was online at exactly 8 am ET. No go for the first night :( Wonder how much luck I'll have with the waitlist. I have a backup cash reservation in my husband's name, but really wanted to use points. Fingers crossed!

Poly is continuing its quick filling of studios that began for reservations beginning late Sep 2016. On March 5, standard and lake view studios actually lost both Oct 5 and 6, meaning anyone trying on March 6 for Oct 6 was dead on arrival at 8 a.m. Oct 7 went quickly at 8 a.m. this morning, March 7, in both. One thing to keep an eye on is what is happenning behind you, Lake View is filled for all of Oct 1-7 but Oct 3 through 5 just opened up again in standard view, indicating that walkers may be passing dates by and creating openings that can be had if one is watching closely.

I own at Poly. On Friday, I cancelled at standard view at Poly for Oct 7-12 and rebooked for November 4-11. I found out my son will be having the whole week off from school so wanted more time at Disney. I'm glad I didn't wait change my reservation. I was afraid of availability as it got closer to the 7 month mark. I guess my Oct cancellation was rebooked quickly!!

My plan right now (since I have enough points to do it) is to start on 11/29 and try to book a full week on that day. If I get it, great, I am done - I will cancel off first 4 days. if not, I will try again on 11/30, 12/1 and 12/2 and of course 12/3 for the 3 nights I actually want. This gives me a few more nights to play with. The only thing that might make it impossible is I am starting for a tuesday check in (the tuesday after thanksgiving). Would it be smarter to try to book starting sunday and then walk the reservation? You have to do this over the phone, correct? I feel like if I can just get that first day and subsequent week I should have a pretty good chance of getting the 3 days that I want. REALLY want lol

In my experience, you are much more likely to get that first reservation (for a walk) if you can start on Friday or Saturday. Many members still prefer weeknight vacations - in on a Sunday and out on a Friday.

even for thanksgiving weekend?

even for thanksgiving weekend?

If there is going to be any opening, yes. It is actually the Saturday of Thanksgiving week where the best chance (assuming any) arises to book at 7 months out time for the week after Thanksgiving that begins on Sunday. That Saturday seems to be the time when most move out who were there for Thanksgiving and thus do not reserve that night for Thanksgiving week, and it is the Sunday after Thanksgiving when much of the new crowd trying to get that week after Thanksgiving move in.

Thanks. So I will try for that saturday and then walk my reservation forward for the 3 days I want. When you're walking do you just call DVC and have them cancel off the first day? I assume first I book saturday through saturday then add days through the website and later call DVC and cancel off the first day of the reservation? have never done this before lol.

And thanks for all of the help! I'm traveling solo with my 8 year old for our once ever 2+ year trip and staying close to the parks where we will be focused makes a HUGE difference in the quality of the trip with him.

Once you start walking, particularly at 7 months out, you need to call daily and drop your first night and add one at the end and do that each day until you have what you want. You cannot just add the days online because you cannot modify an existing reservation online. You can only cancel the whole thing and rebook, and you do not want to wait until 7 months out from your initial departure date to make a new and separate reservation online that you could link to your first one since those additional dates could disappear before you get to reserve.

I am thinking of doing the split stay thing so we can stay at both. It means packing up again but if we are in the park all day and come home to the new resort it's not a big deal, right? It is just me and my then 8 year old son. But I am really leaning toward splitting the stay and doing more MK heavy things the beginning and Epcot/Hollywood Studios things at the end.
Before I read this I was about to say this ^^exactly...

Although I've never done a split stay, I was thinking about this for my upcoming trip.....Wondering if I can score a studio of any kind at my 7 mos. window.

Is there a sight or a map of the bldg. that would show you were the rooms are located??? T.I.A. DizDad

FYI I think you should definitely be shooting for Standard view based on the previously mentioned number of studios available compared to Lake view.

As well, Lake is gone for December 5 as of now, so that would throw a wrench in your plans if you tried for that instead of Standard on the morning of reservation time...

thanks for keeping an eye out for me! I've been checking every few days. I'm planning to book from 11/26 to 12/3 and then try to walk the reservation forward, so I will definitely be checking dates beforehand. right now those days are all open in standard still, hoping it stays that way. 12/5 was one of the first days to book when i booked my boardwalk reservation also, is that the annual meeting or something? I remember that is early december.

We just tried to book at PVB at the 7 month for October and couldn't. Before 8:00 ET it showed available on the Resort Availability Tool and a few minutes after 8:00 AM. It was unavailable for two of the nights we wanted, only the first night was available when we tried to book at 8:00 am. December is pretty popular too so it might be hard to get in at PVB then too. Definitely book right at 8:00 ET.
