I decide to cancel an ADR. Last time - we got kind of "charactered-out" - we actually couldn't even get the kid's to sit and eat at any of the meals... I am planning some character meals - but if we opt out - what is the chance of a walk-up at say... GF Cafe or Kona.. something at the resorts - low key. or , does absolutely every TS meal need an ADR?????

We went to Disney in May of last year (on the DDP) and had an ADR for Chefs de France one day. I had tried and tried and tried to get into Les Cellier instead, but it was booked for our entire trip (even for lunch)!!!!

On the day that we had ADR's at Chefs, we decided to walk by Les Cellier at around 5:30 PM and see if we could get in. Miracle ... we got right in, no problems!!!!!

So I guess it just depends.

Both GF Cafe and Kona will be easier to get into at lunch than at dinner, and if you go at off-peak hours. I've had trouble getting into both at dinnertime without ADRs.

As soon as you know that you're cancelling a character meal, call and try for an ADR for GF Cafe or Kona. At least that way you'll know for sure that you'll be able to get in, instead of heading over to the resort and not being able to get a table.

Even on Presidents Day weekend, the Lobby Concierge was able to get me same day ADRs. Not Teppan Edo, or Cinderella's, but nice relaxing sit-down ADRs. Mexico, Coral Reef, Flying Fish. It can be done if you are not super specific on time and place. (5:15 to 5:30 seems to be the time)

We were there last week and did a few changes, got into Chef's De France and San Angel Inn with no problem but we did call and see if they had open time first, not a walk in and the times they had were very early.

We arrived early to just about all our ADR's, sometimes an hour early, and we were seated right away with the exception of Ohana, that one we waited 30 minutes past our ADR time.

We also had a walk in at the Captain's Grille at 5:30 right when they opened.
