Hi, I had one of my best dining experiences ever eating in the California Grill Wine Room. I especially loved that I saw MK fireworks, EWP, and other park fireworks all during dinner. Do you know if they tend to keep that room adults only or have you seen families dine in there? My next trip will either be next summer or 2013 and my twins will be 7 or 8. I'd like to dine with them but I can plan an evening for DH and I alone as well. Thanks!

We have eaten in the wine room numerous times, and only once were there children in there. Beautifully behaved, if-I-didn't-see-'em,-I-wouldn't-know-they-were-there children, who obviously were used to fine dining. Other than that, only adults...very quiet, enjoyable meals!:thumbsup2

But according to many on the Bistro de Paris thread, such children don't exist.:rotfl2:

You can't see the MK fireworks from the CG wine room. Dh and I used to love to dine there because it tended to be a bit more quiet than the main room. You can see the electrical water parade from there, but most definitely not the MK fireworks. You might be able to see a little bit of Illuminations, but it is very far away.

Lately, when we have dined in the CG wine room, the room has always had children. One night it was a couple of families at 3-4 tables put together in the middle of the room. There were kids everywhere -- running around, making noise, etc. So, no doubt if you ask, you can be seated with children in the CG.

But, no worries. Apparently, all children are extremely well behaved and just love escargot and foie gras. That's what I got out of the Bistro thread!

Never mind that our last meal in the Jiko wine room a few months ago included a large family with 5 babies and toddlers. The toddlers rolled all across the floor from one end of the room to the other laughing and shouting all the way. Then, they would roll back. This was at 10 pm.

Then, the toddlers started swinging on the hanging beads that cover the wine room windows. That's when the manager came in and told the parents they had to keep the kids in their seats. If they hadn't swung on the beads, nothing would have been done about how disruptive the kids were. I guess the toddlers were nibbling on their ahi tuna and lamb loin in between sommersaults across the room. Right.

By the way, if you have dined in a private room at CG and seen the MK fireworks, you were in the room where they hold F&W Festival events. That room is smaller than the CG wine room and has a dead-on view of MK and the MK fireworks. It is not available to the public generally, but is used for special events and private parties.

It also used to be possible to eat in the CG bar area and see the fireworks. Dh and I once decided to go up to CG and have wine and canapes in the bar and were pleasantly surprised when the fireworks started. We had a great view. That was, however, before the internet and the DDP and the "gotta see the fireworks" insanity. Now, the bar area doesn't really exist and, to the extent it does, it's crowded with tons of people waiting for tables.

You can't see MK fireworks while seated in the wine room but if you walk out to the observation deck on the other side of the restaurant, you can see them.

They do not preclude seating families with children in the wine room.

You are correct that you are unable to see MK fireworks in the Wine room, we walked out to the main dining room for those. However, it was so nice to see the EWP from our table. The other fireworks we saw were in the distance, I thought they were maybe from HS (didn't they used to do fireworks in 2002?) or from Universal.

They sat my family in the wine room last time we were at the CG. We did get up during the meal and go outside to watch wishes.

So is the moral from that other thread "all children are horrible" or "all children are great"? But I'll state this, all children are different. Good behavingones should be able to dine nearly everywhere and bad behaving children's parents should be asked to leave.:lmao:

Oh btw, LOVE the CG no matter where I sit.

IMHO all children are children. There are good parents that teach their children manners and there are parents that don't know what manners are.

As has been noted, the Wine Room is for everyone--including families with kids.
I do recall reading somewhere that if they are not especially busy, that room isn't even open.

If you have a large party including lots of kids (in my case nieces and nephews) you will be sent to the Wine Room - when the pager goes off I usually joke to the CM that I can find our table without any assistance (Wine Room ehh?) and they always say "yup".
