Certain Use Years on Wait-list for AKV!

I joined last Sunday and was told my UY would be Dec, my guide left me a message today saying that my UY was changed to February. I haven't had a chance to call her back to get details

I don't have my points yet. I'm planning to call my guide again on Friday (if I haven't heard from him yet) to check on the status. I feel bad that I've been pestering him so much in the last 3 weeks, that I'm trying really hard to wait a few more days between emails/phone calls.

By switching your UY from Dec to Feb, I think you will loose out on 2007 points. I would check with your guide to be sure. That is a whole year worth of points.

I was placed on the waitlist two weeks ago for a June UY. Talked to my guide yesterday and was told that there were 18 persons ahead of me. But, because of my losw request (50 pts), she thought I could get my points in a month.

Well we wanted an April Ues year like we have at VWL.But April was not avalible so she told me she had ec so thats what we wnt with and I got 160 points instead of the 110 I had originally wanted but I had to because of a diffrent use year.
But we are selling our VWL and keeping our AKV so use year didnt matter to us.

We just joined at AKV on the Feb 10th sailing of the Wonder.....and I'm still trying to figure things out.

With a Dec UY, this means that we cannot stay at AKV in the Fall ever? What about other resorts? They certainly were not very clear about this and we were just going full steam ahead.

(Already have our first ressie: AKV Grand Villa Feb 09!) We'll be in Jambo House, and the savannah will be closed.....but we don't care! We can't wait!

You can stay when ever you want pending availability. You UY is your university month when you get your points for the next year. You can use your points anytime during the next 12 months. If you don't use all of your points, you have 8 months from your UY to bank your current UY points into the next year or you loose them. You can book AKV 11 months in advance of your check out date, all other resorts, 7 months from the check out date.

I guess Jambo House is selling faster than they anticipated. Sounds like there will be a delay until the construction at Kidani has progressed to the point where they can begin declaring and selling units in that building.

I'm fairly certain that DVC knew they would run out of points before Kidani was ready.

SSR has over 800 rooms and they've been selling for 4.5 years now (and 13 months of that period has overlapped with AKV.) So figure they were probably selling around 200 rooms' worth of points per year.

Even with sales split between SSR and AKV, it should come as no surprise that the 130-some rooms at Jambo are running short after 13 months.

Actually one thing does surprise me--that the DVC marketing machine didn't start chruning out some sort of "get 'em while they last" warning messages to members. Sounds like there are a few people here who would have acted sooner if they had some warning of the shortage.

As of last night Oct UY with 07 points is still waitlisted (although you can get an OCT UY with 08 points).

where did you find out that the savannah would be closed? do you know how long it will be closed?

It's been posted on the DVC member site. The animals will be removed from the Sunset Savanna from mid January to mid April 2009.

Only the Sunset Savannah will be closed Jan 15th- April 15th b/c of construction on the backside of Kidani Village.

I am calling today to request a GV on the opposite side- which I didn't know about until someone on the DVC AKV owners thread posted the map of where all the units are!
They will not be adjusting points for anyone in GV - b/c there is no other point level.

So, I still don't understand the whole "can't book during the last 4 mos of your UY" part. It really is like mud to me......
