Certain Use Years on Wait-list for AKV!

We have an October UY, we never questioned it when we bought in, because we really didn't know any better. At the time, we actually purchased the amount of points we did based on getting a week at the BW in a one bedroom every February school break (Long Island gets President's week off). Now my kids are out of school, and now I work for a school district, but the October UY still works great for us. We won't travel south in the summer, I'm not a happy camper in that kind of heat and have the beach right here on LI. I am off when the school is closed for breaks, so we still have plenty of opportunity to travel when we like - specifically February through April. It works well for us. I've been able to plan a week in February or March or April every year, as well as a long weekend in October or November. As time goes by (and we keep adding on ) it seems we get to go every 5 or 6 months. I am currently looking into booking next year in Feb, or Mar too! Isn't this fun?

Actually, Oct is a really BAD time if you travel in the summer. That means if you have to cancel the last minute, you lose a lot of points. But it all depends on when you travel...

Which is exactly why Oct UY is perfect for me. I won't set foot in Florida from June to October. WAY too hot.

Good point. I guess since I am in CA and I am looking to vacation elsewhere once DVC "spreads a bit", I don't mind. My use year is actually Sept and it always works out well for us.

well talked to my guide they UY is in concrete now that the closing date is approaching.

Though I must say thats for the advice. I am fine with and OCT UY I hated the heat last year and think I will hate it again in AUGUST. this will be my last summer week there.

Next year since we in WESTCHESTER get the PREsidents week off I will aim for this time next year.

Well I was able to answer my own question. My guide called me back this afternoon and I did my add-on. So there are still August UY points available. She told me that there are multiple UYs without points right now. She mentioned that she thought it would be this summer before the next group of points becomes available.

There is nothing in particular that makes October more deisrable than others. When they declare "units," which are groups of rooms (2 or more), for sale each unit has its own use year. They try to spread it out so when all is done you have comparable points in all use years. From one of the mentions in an above post October appears to have gone mainly because when they sell, they usually offer a use year that begins 2 or more months before date of sale and apparently Ocotber was a biggie for Christmas through President's day sales and they must have gotten a lot more sales than anticipated during that time.


Also, someone above asked what happens to someone's deposit if they do not return the paperwork. Failure to return the contracts signed is deemed a rejection of the sale and all deposit money has to be returned.

LisaS: you caught on to something that did not strike me right away. The OP was told to come back in mid-summer when they declare more into AKV. That means they will start declaring Kidani in summer since all has been declared in Jambo. That would indicate Kidani may be opening sooner than expected.

Good point! My guide said we will have a chance to stay at Kidani for New Year if we want. She said to call about 30 days before we arrive and ask for it. But from the way she said it (matter of factly), it sounded like a done deal that the construction would be complete by then.

We joined on Wednesday and got August UY. We specifically requested August because we *cannot* travel to FL May-August, due to heat and our daughters special needs. I figured with August we would have plenty of time to cancel and bank!

So as of Wed there was August UY available at AKV.

We bought 75 points today at AKV. We got December UY (the same UY as the 225 points we bought 02-07-08).

Keep in mind that your vacation habits will chand through your life, a time will come when your current UY is perfect for you.

Hello, this is my first post! I called my guide on 2/15 to add on 200 points at AKV. We have a June UY at SSR, so he said we had to stick with a June UY at AKV. The points weren't available then, but he said they would be in a week or two. I still don't have my points, and when I talked to my guide 2 days ago, he said it will probably be another week or two, and no more 2007 points, just 2008. Ugh! Adding on shouldn't be this hard! I'm tempted to just add on at SSR instead so I can start making reservations, but I really want the 11 month window for a GV at AKV.

well we wanted to add on 110 points at AKV and we have an Apr use year.. When I talked to my guide on Tuesday April was availible but did not have any 07 points. So I asked what UY did and it was Dec so we had to add on 160 to get it because it is a diffrent use year.But I wanted the 2007 points and I was able to get 160 develpoer poiints doing the 160 instead of the 100 if I had of added on 110.
But we are selling our VWL contract so the UY will be no prolem for us.

I called on monday to add 200 points and I have an april use year. There were only 2008 points available so I am on a waitlist for the 2007 points. My guide told me there was a less than 50% chance that I would get the 2007 points, in which case I think I would cancel the add on.

I called Wednesay and there were no June UY points available. I didn't think it would be difficult to add on to a resort that was far from being sold out. Color me surprised.

I guess Jambo House is selling faster than they anticipated. Sounds like there will be a delay until the construction at Kidani has progressed to the point where they can begin declaring and selling units in that building.
