Ceremony Locations in Winter Months

Hello, everyone, new to this board, so bear with me on a custom wedding question. Due to stubborn relatives, it looks like my wedding date is going to be resigned to the winter months, either Dec. or Jan. Originally, I had wanted the ceremony at one of the Epcot Int'l. pavilions outdoors, but that clearly won't work at that time of year or everyone will be freezing.

I want to do something a little bit less traditional than the Wedding Pavilion, which for some reason just isn't grabbing me (although I haven't seen it in person yet). Anyone know if there are any indoors locations not advertised on the website that have been done in the past or have any creative suggestions? Thanks!

Don't rule out an outdoor location too quickly. I don't live too far from Orlando (and lived there last year) and there were plenty of days in December - January where I wore short sleeves and capri pants. It doesn't get too cold on most days. We did have a cold snap Jan. 5 - 7 of this year where it was 33 degrees in the late afternoon/evening but that's not the norm. Just a consideration.

I'm sure there are plenty of Custom brides who can give you recommendations on alternate locations too! (I was an Intimate bride but I agree, the WP just didn't do it for me).

We are having a Dec. 18 wedding at Sea Breeze Point and we are HOPING for not so cold weather!!! BTW, I too agree the WP just wasn't for me either. It is gorgeous, but I just wanted something a little different.

I am getting married at the yacht club dec 5th this year. I loved this time of year because of all the festive decorations!

If you don’t mind an early morning wedding, you can have a ceremony inside the American Adventure Pavilion at Epcot. The ceremony has to be held before World Showcase opens though (before 11 am). I had my reception there, and it is a beautiful room.

You could also consider any of the other indoor reception locations. I would imagine that most if not all of them could accommodate a ceremony. Other unique places that come to mind are the Living Seas VIP room or Atlantic Dance Hall at the BoardWalk.

Also, December typically has pretty good weather. While it’s possible that it might be cold, it might not be. I know our event manager also said that they do have some space heaters they can use for outdoor events, so you might ask about that to see if that’s still the case.

I originally was scheduled to do my ceremony AND reception at the Atlantic Dance Hall...but it was determined that logistically that was just a nightmare and we would have to leave to do our prereception somewhere else...so we went with the WP (not my first choice either, but now wouldn't do it anywhere else!). But you could do your ceremony there and then maybe move over to ariels' or something...also Elisabeth mentioned early morning at the american pavilion--you can also do that post 8 pm I believe...that was my ideal place, but it didn't fit the budget:)

We had our VR scheduled for outdoors on December 16 2005 (we had to reschedule due to Hurricane Katrina), but we really weren't concerned. Now it's in June so we have different issues like heat and thunderstorms, so anytime of the year has its problems

We spent our honeymoon 10 years ago in December at WDW and it was shorts in day and long pants at night. We have also visited 5 more December's since then and it has always been the same for the most part. It may be a little nippy in the morning, but you won't be outside for too long and in December you usually don't have to worry about rain.

December is a lovely time because all of WDW is decorated to the MAX. Your pictures would be fantastic!

Good Luck! Lisa

We had December 6th, 2005 at 3pm at Sunset Pointe. It was perfect, it was very windy, so breezy but not cold. Everyone just brought sweaters or light jackets. I wasn't even chilly until after the sun went down in my strapless gown, at that point I just stole hubbys jacket hehe. We were out until after 8 and I was never cold. So you can do a "winter" wedding outside without problems. If your really worried, get a wrap for your dress, and suggest sweaters for everyone.

Since you are a custom bride, or at least I'm assuming due to your planned location I really think you should continue to have your wedding in the location you want. The weather is very mild in FL and can be very comfortable. If for some bizarre reason there is a cold snap I'm sure your EM can arrange for some space heaters at your cermony site. Good luck!!

Our date was December 6, 1996 and that evening it was really nice. Light breeze, and even in my short sleeve dress I never pulled out my wrap, and nobody else used one either. We had a WP ceremony, Living Seas reception and then Illuminations Party at the UK Lower Terrace - right on the water - and it was late that night, didn't start until 10. My MOH was in spaghetti straps and did not have a wrap either. Weather could go either way, our coldest trip EVER was over Spring Break!

I wouldnt worry about freezing in Orlando during the day at all. I lived in Jax (1 1/2 hours away) for 10 years and the lowest temperatures ever during the day were may be 40s in January and February. Its not cold in the sun but it can be windy. December is very nice time because its not too chilly yet for day or night. GL

I appreciate all of the comments, perhaps it won't be as cold as I expected, and I like the idea of the space heaters to ensure that it's warm enough for the guests. Looks like I'll be considering some of the outdoor locations in EPCOT like I wanted to after all.
