Census Gripe (OT)

So I did my American duty and sent in my census forms within one week of getting them. Now I have a census employee coming to my door - every other day (at the worst times for me - right at lunch or right before school pickup). I told her today that I did mail my form in, but she said I didn't do it in time. Ok seriously - how much time did they allow? I know she is just doing her job (and here in Michigan jobs are HARD to come by) but why didn't the census managers give a bit more time for responses before they had people walk around the neighborhoods. It just seems like a huge waste of money to me....Maybe the postal service lost my response, who knows. But it still seems like a waste to me....Has anyone else heard that they didn't get the forms back "in time"?

Yes- someone showed up today at our house, and I mailed the census form back the day after it came in the mail. He told me almost everyone he had talked to today had mailed theirs in already too.

Me too. I mailed in my census form the day after I got it, but a census worked showed up at my door this morning.

He was a nice guy and he showed me his badge and everything, but in the back of my mind, I'm thinking...."How comfortable am I telling this guy I live here alone?" KWIM?

I KWYM - I had to tell the census lady I couldn't talk with her when she knocked. She didn't like that - "it will only take 10 minutes miss" So I had to tell her I had to leave to take my son to kindergarten and then run andpickup my daughter from her preschool - I didn't have 10 minutes. As I pulled out of the driveway, she was still sitting in her car parked in front of my house (illegally parked I might add!!) I was just glad I had locked and bolted the doors!!! I was not comfy with her knowing no one was home...

You should had told her "fine, we can talk while I run my errands, get in the car".

We sent ours back the day after receiving it, too. Woe to the census worker who tries to find us here, with our 12-hour days!
