cellier or rose & crown

We are trying to decide b/t cellier or rose and crown for dinner. We will be dining there on a Friday night that will also be the first day of the F&W festival at Epcot. We currently have ADR for both, but I'm wanting to make a final decision so I can cancel one of them. Our time for cellier is late afternoon but rose & crown is for 7:45. I know it can't be guarenteed, but how likely is it that we'll get the balcony for illuminations? Also, which restaurant has the best food? Trying to decide which restaurant is about to drive me crazy. There will be 6 adults and 3 young children. Thanks

I wouldn't worry about where you sit at Rose and Crown. We ate there last Saturday and I heard the wait staff tell a patron they have a special viewing spot for those who don't have a view of illuminations from their table.
If it helps though, we ate outside and there was a large party next to us, maybe 7 or 8 people, so it is a possibility to eat outside.

I like Rose and Crown but the better food is over at Le Cellier, IMO.

On our first trip we booked at Rose and Crown in order to view Illuminations (because of a "tip" in a guidebook). We were able to get an outside table and enjoyed watching Illuminations from the table. My DH, DS, and myself enjoyed the food as well. The second year we again went to Rose and Crown and did not get an outside table; however, when Illuminations started our server took us outside so we could view the show. We went to Rose and Crown a third time last year and again got an outside table - however, we were very disappointed with the food. Prime Rib (my DH's favorite) was no longer on the menu. He is a very plain eater (meat and potatoes - no seafood, nothing "different") so he and my DS did not really like their meals. This year we are going to try Le Cellier based on what I have read on the DIS. We will try to get a good view of Illuminations some other way after dinner.

Both are good. Le Cellier is harder to get reservations for, so call early.

The Rose and Crown is everyone's favorite for trying to get a ringside seat for Illuminations. There is no guarantee for getting an outside table, but as others have mentioned, if the timing is right, they will take you outside to a small area to see the show. We ate there last month and our server took us out there after our meal. It's a small area almost straight back from the outside bar and can accommodate six or eight people comfortably.

Yes, the prime rib is gone, but I am also a "meat and potatos" guy and they have a fantastic Shepards Pie that should satisfy most picky eaters.

Funny thing about Illuminations and the Rose and Crown... some people get downright indignant if they don't get an outside table, but Illuminations is just as enjoyable even if you're not at the railing. I prefer to eat first and then catch the show as we start walking out. There's really not much to see down close to the water worth squeezing in at the railing.

I couldn't decide either, so booked Rose & Crown for one night and LeCellier for a few nights down the road
