cell phones were a bust!

We have sprint and used it last year. But I do like the back up plan, it just makes sense.

We had AT&T last year and had no problem using our phones in the parks. My sister did have problems, and I'm pretty sure she's on Cingular. But with AT&T being part of Cingular now, perhaps Cingular will have better coverage.

Coverage, perhaps. I was told that the coverage area was supposed to expand with the merge. But the amount of issues with Cingular, well, :sad2:

I had AT&T and it was great. But once it switched to Cingular, it was dreadful. Does not make sense. You would think the service would be better. Nope. Dropped calls. Call waiting disconnecting me. I want AT&T back! ::yes::

For anyone with the Nextels with the two way radio feature, I was absolutly amazed that DH (who was at home in Alabama,) and I were able to communicate via the two way radios while I was underwater (seabase alpha) at the living seas!! We had better reception than if I were in the next room at home. :sunny:

Has anyone used US Cellular? I have that and was planning on my DD and her friend being in contact by cell, but now I am concerned they might not work. I think my DD's friend has Ntelos. Has anyone used either of those in Disney?? Thanks :flower:

Hmmm decisions, decisions, My husband and I have Cingular and our contract is up in September and we were debating on keeping Cingular or going with another carrier just because we do get bad reception on our phones sometimes. We want to shop around for the best national plan so that we can use them in the parks when we are there in October. Believe it or not we have a Cingular tower at the end of are street and can not use the phones in the house, I can stand in the driveway and use it but as soon as I walk in the garage the call gets dropped its very annoying.

we have verizon service.never had a problem in park when we were there last month,

as a matter of fact, when I was in NY state, past year, out of 5 women, my phone was the only phone that actually got reception.

But, I was the only verizon phone.

I have Verizon. Horrid service at OKW, good service at Epcot, So/so other places.

As I understand it, Disney does not allow cell phone towers on property so at some points you are pretty far away from a tower.

I sent you a PM about the AT&T/Cingular switch...

Personally, I think all the carriers probably have their moments. My DD lives in Orlando and works at MK and has Cingular (had ATT at first) and many times she doesn't have a signal in the parks - just depends where she is. We have verizon and the same with us...usually we received each others calls or messages, but if you are in the wrong spot or all the cells are busy, you just can't get through. With Disney's arrangement with Nextel for their own internal system, that ones likely the best in the parks, but that doesn't help if you aren't on nextel normally.
We did use texting alot....it's also less disturbing to others around you. I really get annoyed with the ringing phones and beeping walkie talkies sometimes.

We have Verizon. I NEVER got a signal anywhere in WDW last week. As soon as we left, the signal was perfect.

We have the Cingular Nationwide plan. We used it in June with no problems or roaming fees. I don't know why yours didn't work.

I also have Cingular and I have been able to place and receive calls from all the parks :confused3
I've been with them for over 8 years and they have made a lot of improvements, I am very happy with them!!

We have cingular and have never experienced a problem in WDW. :confused3

Have used Cingular in the parks now for years --never a problem, even in the rooms, and even when they changed over to the GSM phones,,,no roaming problems,,butwe have a NATION WIDE plan, so that maybe why...

Tink

Same here. No problems, either, with the Nationwide plan :confused3 .

We have Sprint and Virgin Mobile, and both worked fine, everywhere except in our room!

I have a somewhat related question...
Two years ago, my room key/ticket stopped working (trying to get into AK! Urgh!). They made me a new one and said that it may have been zapped by my cell phone. They have never mentioned this at check in, but we don't carry our cells anymore because of this.
Anyone else encountered this, or does it sound like it was perhaps just an excuse for a faulty card?
Thanks!

:confused3 I have Cingular and I have tried MANY different carriers. I have no problem with them Maybe its the type of cell phone you have? Some brands work better and reveive signals better than others. :confused3

we use our phones all the time and never had any problems with the service.

Not sure if it was the phone types or not, we use Nokias and no flip phones.

No problem with Cingular at WDW here, either. I'm surprised you would have. Cingular has a major tech support/call station in Orlando so maybe the problem was your actual phones? I believe all cellular providers allow each other to "piggyback" off of each others towers either because of common courtesy and benefit or they are required to by law, so that wouldn't be the cause of your problems.
