Which should I bring to the park to keep up with my teenage daughter and her friend? My cell provider is Alltel, if that makes any difference. I like the idea of being able to have a private conversation with the cell phones, plus I have unlimited cell-to-cell minutes, but I'm wondering how good the reception will be. Anyone know?

We used cell phones and had no problem. We have used walkie talkies in the past and had a problem with picking up other peoples conversations.

Does anyone have information on the signal strenth of Verizon in Orlando (all parks?).

I believe I have read in other threads that sometimes people have had to use text messaging (which I have never used!) due to insufficient signal strength but not sure which provider.

Thanks.

I've used my Verizon cellphone to communicate with my daughter last time we were at Universal. We didn't have any trouble, other then her calling all her friends back home to chat. Have a good trip.

Thanks so much. I believe we can curtail that particular problem if it arises with our sons.

Don't bother with walkie-talkies. Too many people have them and so you may pick up someone elses conversation or worse: they hear yours!!

I have Alltel also and works great for my mom and I. I'm a teenger myself and so I recommend using the cell phones.

I used AT&T and it works fine at Universal and WDW. I couldn't get a signal at all at Cedar Point for some reason.

I hope I will have as good luck with my and my husband's cell phones while there. Perhaps we should try to figure out text messaging before we go, just in case.

Thanks for the replies.

Those with nextel can use direct connect (need two nextel phones)

last year saw people using them at entrance to USF.

I will be at Hard Rock July 30 and will let you know how this works out.

Dark Marauder (or anyone with info!) - you said that Sprint works fine - did you have any trouble with signal strength at all? Between our 2 parties with a total of 7 people, we have 3 Sprint phones all with unlimited cell to cell. Did you have any "network busy" problems?
