DH and I have tracfones which are fine for us. We are quickly finding out that it is socially crippling for DD however.

What is the cheapest way to get unlimited texting? Don't care if the phone is "cool" or not..

WE have tmobile, it's $20 extra for unlimited texting, I have no idea if that helps you or not, but I tried. :)

I think that my grandson has unlimited calls and texting for 45 a month from straight talk??? I am thinking that is what it is called.....he had to buy his phone first.....
I too have tracfone but thinking seriously about taking out the house phone and having hubby and myself get this straight talk too...

I believe WalMart has a pay as you go phone that has texting, it is not a smart phone so keypad texting only but it would at least give her access.

Virgin is $25/mo for unlimited everything -- EXCEPT voice minutes, which is capped at 300. That's the favorite plan of teens b/c they really very seldom SPEAK on the phone. (And yes, that plan includes some smartphones, but their cheapest qwerty phone is $50 at the moment. If she's good with a traditional phone with just a numeric pad, there are freebies available.)

My daughter got a smart phone from Virgin Mobile for her birthday, and switched to them. $25 monthly, unlimited, text and data, 300 minutes of talk time. So far, since March 25th, she has used about 1/3 of her talk minutes, but has logged thousands of texts. Previously, she was Verizon, and we were paying about $30/month. That was $20 of unlimited texting to anyone and $10 for talk. Her previous phone did not use data. I'm thinking of switching to Virgin for me.

This is what I was going to suggest. My sister has this, and she loves it. She got a basic phone for around $30, and then she pays $45 a month for unlimited talk, text and data. She lives in a somewhat rural area, and she said the reception is always great. She got hers through Wal Mart. (I don't know if Straight Talk is an exclusive deal through Wal Mart or not.)

Third the Virgin plan for $25. My DD in college has this and loves it. the internet access is great with unlimited texting. I did A LOT of research and this is the cheapest plan for what you get that I could find.

I also like the no contract aspect also, I hate signing anything for 2 yrs.

She got her phone which is very nice for $150 but they did have cheaper ones available.

Another vote for Virgin Mobile...

I have my 20year old daughter and my 18 year old son on the Virgin $25 plan... UNLIMITED text and Data with 300 anytime minutes.

My son even has an Android phone(very cool) on his plan, most carriers charge extra when it is a smartphone like that.

When it comes to coverage, Virgin is on the Sprint network. So if you know anyone with Sprint ask how their service is in your area.

We have Kajeet phones. We use the $15 per month plan that has 60 minutes of talk (which we never use) and unlimited texting. The lowest priced phone is usually in the $30 range and you can cancel or change your service at any time- no contracts.

I like that it has parent controls so I can be sure that DD isn't awake texting at 3am.

someone mentioned today that Verison has a $10 unlim texting plan? I assume that means no talk time? Has anyone heard of this? Of course she only uses the phone to call me..

I don't really get texting at all.. she goes back and forth trying to make plans.. I keep telling her to just pick up the phone but she says that's not as much fun?

Guess I'm just old. :confused3

That $10 is an add-on to a voice plan. You can not get a TEXT only plan.
