Our current cell phone plan won't be up for another year (Verizon). My daughter is that age now of wanting a phone. My husband prefers to wait another year until or current contract is up and then get a family plan. Does anyone know if you can "re-negotiate" a current contract? Or will it just cost us an arm and a leg? Also wondering if there's any great deals out there to sign with someone else and leave Verizon without penalty?

I've always been able to change my plans with Verizon with no penalty. I think it benefits them to allow you to add a phone and change your plan. New lines = more money for them.

Typically, your contract is tied to the phone and not the cellphone plan. so like u can change ur plan as much as u like.

Thank goodness the days of Verizon being able to charge people $80-$100 per month for cell phone service are long gone. T-Mobile and Sprint and just decimating Verizon and AT&T. Verizon is losing hundreds of thousands customers every quarter. T-Mobile gaining millions of customers.

I can't wait until the same things happens to internet service and cable TV.

that will never happen... haha. Cable/internet company hold oligopoly... hence why u only have a choice of one cable company, one phone company, or satellite.

You can add a line whenever you want with Verizon. Cancelling a line is another matter.

Do you really think the cable TV companies are going to wait until all their customers leave before they change? Already people are leaving cable in droves and their subscriber count is falling every year.

We have two cable and phone providers and multiple satellite Providers in the area. We may have more phone providers if you consider those new companies coming out that offer landlines for $10 a month.

I've never had a problem cancelling a cell phone line from Verizon.

are u in the states? In my area, i have 1 cable company, 1 phone company. one sat TV is owned by the phone company.

My Niece is on my VZW plan and her line expires after mine. I also have a Mifi that is out of contract, can upgrade at anytime.

My dad was on our Verizon plan. He died in 2008. The guy at the Verizon store told me I had to bring proof he died to cancel his line. He had it just a few months. I asked what kind of proof? Like an obituary? And he said yes that will work. Well I showed it to him and he cancelled it with no problem but I thought it was strange. That was 9 years ago but that was my experience.

Was his phone on a contract?

We often change Verizon plan in order to accommodate travel changes, altering adult children's phones (cheaper for them to stay on but they pay us monthly for their portion). We also get educator's discounts through Verizon, so we find the price is still cheaper than others.
