Cell Phone Plans??

I am trying to save some money (who isn't?) and am wondering about cell phone rates/plans.

Is there a specific company that tends to be cheaper? Sprint? Verizon? etc.

Is it cheaper to get an individual plan that comes with phone? Or cheaper to be added as a family member to an existing plan?

A friend offered to have me join her plan as a family member at a rate of $50 a month. That seems awfully steep to me...

Any help/advice out there?

I definitely need unlimited texting. Probably would use maybe 300-400 minutes per month, if that.

Our family plan is with AT&T. The cheapest plan with ATT is $50.00 month family plan. Text is extra. So, if I added you to my family plan, this is how much your phone would cost me:

Phone line $9.99
Data Plan $30.00
Bumping up to the next level of minutes would be about $15.00
Unlimited texting $15-$20
plus tax, fcc fees, etc.

Seems your friend is charging you about what it would be costing her every month, maybe a little less, to be on her family plan. If you opened your own account with these features on your plan it would definitely be more than $50.00 per month.
