Ok, I'm finally getting ready to get rid of Nextel but I don't know where to go. I thought that once they merged with Sprint, things would have gotten better. Instead, it's worse.

I live in PA, almost near MD. I was wondering which company you recommend. People in my area like both so that makes it even tougher for me to decide. That and the fact that I'd be locked in for a year or two.

I really LOVE the Verizon LG ENV but don't want to choose them just because of the phone...or I guess I could? I also like their chaperone feature for when my daughter gets old enough to have a phone.

We also travel up near Altoona, PA and Wildwood, NJ.

I voted for cingular....I have used them since they were Cellone....I almost always have reception. my Sister and Brother have Verizon, and they get alot of 'dead' spots..... like our living room.... the kitchen..... lol.

In Sea ISle City my Cingular phone is the only one that works in a house full of Verizon phones.

I have had both Verizon and AT&T which is now Cingular. They have both had their problems but I had more when I was with AT&T. Some of my dads friends have Cingular and they are contantly having problems with reception and customer service.

If you know people with both get them together at your house and try both phones to see which one works better in your area.

Once you pick one make sure you pay attention to your bill because cell phone companys like putting in bogus charges hoping you wont notice (both company's have done this to me).

We went from Nextel to Cingular and right back to Nextel
Never tried Verizon

I have Cingular and my mom, sister and best friend all have Verizon.

I don't have problems with reception in the areas that they do.

I don't have voicemails showing up hours/days later. They do.

Stay with Nextel and get the new phone that uses the Sprint for Phone and the Nextel for DC.

But of your 2 choices i would go with Verizon as their CS is a bit better then Cing.

I live not too far from you op and we love Cingular.

I just can't stand Nextel anymore since the merge.

Too many dead zones now and the cell phones are so expensive & you don't good features to compensate the price.

Cingular does not have the dropped calls or reception problems that Verizon has. Plus - they have rollover minutes. It's a good deal.

Huh, how did I miss that one? I'm paying $138 a month for 4 lines sharind 1000 minutes. I'm unaware of a split phone.

Our friend owns the local Cingular franchise and we've only had one of our other friends drop Nextel and go with Cingular. This friend says when his obligation is up he is through with Cingular, he's a plastic surgeon and has dropped calls and dead spots all the time! :lmao:

You can puchase a sprint phone with sprint service. With sprint, you can direct connect to sprint and nextel customers and it's included with their plans.

With nextel, you have to pay an additional $5 a month to direct connect to sprint customers as well.

I could be wrong but I think that's what they were referring to.

I totally agree. I dumped Nextel for Sprint and then they merged a couple months later and all of the sudden my phone didn't work in my office building. I'm out of my Sprint contract this spring and cannot wait. Their service and phones blow. We bought two Treos and one has been replaced twice and the other three times. Each time we've been without a phone for 7 to 20 days. :sad2:

I'm headed to Verizon. The Verizon users I know in my area really like it.

Oh, I'm so glad that I'm not the only one to feel this way. I love my free incoming plan but that's about it. I have to charge my phone twice a day, I get dropped calls now and pay and arm & leg for a horrible phone.

I know Verizon has a 15 day satisfaction window so I might start with them since I really love their phones and some features they have. I can also get a 1 year plan with them as well. I'd still like the votes to keep coming in incase their is something I'm not realizing or maybe some others will vote from my area (lancaster county, PA).

Thanks everyone who took the time to vote and/or post for me. I was with AT&T for 10 years and then switched to Nextel for DH. I've had them for 4 years and I'm now ready to make the leap somewhere else.

I've had both (with Verizon now) and I can say DO NOT go w/ Cingular. I found their service terrible, and their customer service worse.

I've had Cingular for a few years now, and never had a Customer Service problem, and I have called them PLENTY. I think both services are good as far as reception. The reason I chose to go with Cingular is because of the rollover minutes, and I like the dropped call stuff. If you are on a phone call that gets dropped, it doesn't get deducted from your minutes. Considering I have almost 9000 rollover minutes now, I don't forsee a problem with ever having to pay out of pocket anything other than my normal monthly payment.

I have verizon and have never had any problems with it maybe it's the area I live in. Cingular isn't as good in my neck of the woods my boyfriend had it and switched to verizon.

Everyone I know has verizon so I get to talk to them for free which is great!

Gee great, a tie so far...

I emailed my boss since I know he has had both providers. His response "I have had both and consider them equal".

I also travel to Knoebels for a week and want to make sure I can get coverage at the park and campground.
