Cell phone android or blackbery

I'm planning on upgrading my ATT phone. Does anyone have any recommendations for an ATT smartphone that is either a droid or a blackberry? I have to stay with ATT because DD just upgraded her phone for two years and we have a family plan. Also, I am happy with ATT. Of course, I want a phone that will download apps for WDW .

Android hands down. As for which phone exactly, that all depends on what you want. I'd look for a phone that comes with Froyo out of the box (Gingerbread isn't on much yet). After that the biggest difference is whether it has a physical keyboard or just the on-screen keyboard.

Once you see the options available to you go to cNet (Gadget Blog and Reviews), Engadget, Gizmodo, and gdgt and read up on what they think. Those are the go-to sites for gadget info.

Personally I would try and get a handset made by HTC because their Sense UI is the best of the Android UI overlays. I have a MyTouch 4G (T-Mobile only) and love the phone.

Agreed! I have also had both and i love my Droid. The BB was nice for email but that was it. My Droid does so much more and makes it really easy to be online. It handles email just fine but my work email doesn't auto sync because of our server setup.

my DH just got the iPhone. There is a huge advantage on the resolution with the iPhone. His is far superior. Droid has more free aps though.

I have had both and it depends on what you are wanting the phone to do.

My blackberry didn't surf the web all that well but it handled all my email addresses fabulously.

My Android is great for surfing the web, has much better apps but other than my gmail account, it really doesn't handle my email so well. My MSN account seems to be hit or miss on getting my emails in a timely manner and I haven't been able to add my work email account at all, even though the blackberry added it with no problem.

Your work email probably has more to do with your work system then the phone. My old company would not support anything but Blackberry and Palm so we had no choice. I have had zero issues with my home email address but I did have to change my settings on my home computer to "leave on server" for emails. This then forwards all emails to my phone and my other computer. I don't have an MSN one so I can't help with that.

as PP asked...what is your main purpose for the phone? email or apps/web? if its email DO NOT get the Android, it is absolutely HORRENDOUS for email. I owned my Android for all of 35 days before I went back and bought a blackberry instead. The customer service guy said I couldn't return the Droid since it was greater than 30 days and I couldn't get any rebates, coupons, discounts etc. I didn't care one bit...hate, hate, hated the Android. On top of being absolutely horrible for email the battery is also awful. Most days I barely made it to lunch without totally draining the battery and its not like I sat there all morning playing with the phone.

So can you guess what my opinion is? Blackberry all the way!

I have had zero issues with my Droid and my battery has never drained in just a couple hours. With my normal use I get 2-3 days of battery. If I have long phone conversations, which I rarely do, that drops down by a day or so. It sounds like you had issues with that particular phone and not a Droid per se. I have 3 email accounts on my phone and they all work perfectly.

I just got my first blackberry in December, LOVE IT! I also know plenty of people who have an Android though and love it. It all comes down to what you like in a phone in the end. I love the type of keyboard on the blackberry over a slide out or touch keyboard, but most people disagree with me there. Honestly besides the screen and keyboard though I think both phones offer the same options.

Thanks for all your replies so far. I am taking note of all of them. My main purpose would be talking, texting, web surfing and using the apps. I don't use the phone I have now, for email very often because it doesn't work very well for email. However, the phone I have now, is just a basic phone that surfs the internet.

I had a BB for years and thought I would never do without it-until I got my Droid! I love it! It does have to be charged every day, but it's still worth it to me.

I had a BlackBerry curve for over 2 years. I thought it was the best phone ever. That is until the first of the year. I was due for an upgrade and the Samsung Epic 4G was looking good to me. So I switched to the Android. I LOVE this phone. It does things that my BB couldn't for instance, multitasking. I am able to be on the phone and surf the web or check my messages or calendar at the same time. The colors are so bright, sound quality is amazing. And the apps...SUPERB! Most of the necessary apps are free, unlike BlackBerry App World. I've had this phone for almost 3 months, and I'm still learning new things. Its AMAZING! As far as the battery life goes. I have to charge my Android everyday, but I had to do the same with my blackberry, so it really was no change there. I will say that I have to charge my iTouch and iPad sometimes twice a day even if I hardly touch them.

Thank you. I ended up getting the HTC Inspire. It is very large but I do like it so far. It is a Droid 2.2 so it has froyo and sense. Now, I just have to learn how to use it for more than talking and texting.

I just bought an HTC with Android today, so I'm voting for Android.
