Here is a review of our 8 night cruise on Celebrity Beyond to Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao for anyone interested! Short summary is we loved it. But for more in depth review (as always this is my personal experience and thoughts)…it’s long so will split up into multiple posts.

BASICS: Beyond was built in 2022. Max capacity is 3900, and double occupancy is 3200. There were about 350 kids onboard per the kids club staff. Myself, DH, and DD11 had a concierge infinite verandah room at 240 sq feet. We paid 5300 for our fare. We also pre-purchased the premium beverage package for DH and myself (this also allowed DD11 to get unlimited nonalcoholic drinks) and premium WiFi for 2 devices so we paid $6800 total before the cruise. We have done 3 Dream cruises, one Wish, and have the Treasure and Wish booked again. Last cruises on DCL were 2 in 2023. Also have done NCL as a family and RCL and Princess before kids.

EMBARKATION: Pulled into parking garage at Port Everglades at 1050 am and on the ship at 1115 even though we had a 12 boarding time. Easiest process ever and I didn’t have to wake up at midnight beforehand to book a boarding time! Muster process way easier—We had to watch a video on the phone that morning and then physically check in at our muster station when we boarded. That was it, no shutting the ship down for 45 minutes and physically going at the same time. Advantage to Celebrity over DCL.

CABIN: infinite verandah is a floor to ceiling glass wall so the balcony is more like a sunroom. You can lower the wall to be open halfway to “convert” to a balcony, but the AC in your room automatically kicks off. I liked it because it made the room feel bigger and I could get sit with a sea view in climate control. DH preferred regular balcony. No split bathroom but glass wall in shower and lots of aorage and counter space in bathroom. DD11 slept on sofa similar to DCL set up. Aesthetic was clean neutral and reminded us more of Wish without Disney art. I could see having 4 people would be tight in the cabin mainly due to one bathroom. Concierge is not like DCL (which we have never sailed due to $). Concierge gets a separate embarkation lunch and sparkling wine and canapés daily. We only booked it because that was all that was left when booking. No clear advantage to us between DCL and Celebrity cabins. We did have twice daily cabin service.

FOOD: We all liked Celebrity dining better. We had anytime dining so just show up whenever you feel like and to whatever MDR you want. If you prefer you can go to the same MDR at the same time everyday and have the same service team. We liked the flexibility of going whenever we wanted and also liked that we did not have to share a table with others. The food quality in the MDR was overall superior to DCL to us. There are 4 MDRs. Each has 3 exclusive entrees to them (for example the Italian one featured pasta), then they all 4 share 5 entrees that change daily and 3 classics always served. Service in MDRs was fine—nothing spectacular but nothing bad. It was better than some DCl experiences but not as good as others. Nice thing is if you didn’t like the service one night you have a new team the next if you go to a different MDR. They don’t do magic tricks and such but that is fine for us.

We did do 2 speciality dinners just to mix it up and enjoyed them. There are more speciality options on Beyond ranging from sushi to steakhouse to French. Prices ranged from 45-125 per person. However, we did not feel like we needed to do specialty dining.

Drinks seemed more elevated than DCL, though I think the Triton ships are working in more craft cocktails. Drinks were more expensive at mostly $12-17. We spent a lot of time at the Martini bar with flair bartenders and the Sunset Bar which was aft and outside with acoustic guitar players and beautiful views with lots and comfy outdoor seating.

Pool grill was burgers and hotdogs and just meh. I think the pool options on Wish are much better. We aren’t big buffet people, but the buffet on Celebrity was very nice with lots of made to order stations. Buffet is also open for dinner so nice option if you don’t want to do a sit down full service meal—DCL really needs to have another option beside room service and MDR for dinner. Ice cream was 8 hard scoop flavors, 2 soft serve, and toppings that are scooped for you. We all liked that better than DCL—I also hate self serve on DCL after seeing the questionable hygiene from people (like licking their fingers and then using ice cream machine). Advantage Celebrity over DCL.

POOL: There was one large pool with shelf seating and in water loungers as well as a deeper end at 5 feet, two raised hot tubs with sea views, two infinity plunge pools, and an adult only solarium with a pool and two hot tubs. They were crowded as any cruise ship, but DD11 swam more on this cruise than any DCL cruise because she had more space. No lifeguards. There are no water slides or splash pads, so that may be an issue for some. We saw one family push their little kids in a ring floating unicorn around the pool every day and they had space to do itWe enjoyed the pool more on Celebrity. They had various music (acoustic guitar, DJ) that we did not find loud or grating. They did aqua aerobics, guest vs officer volleyball, pool Olympics, etc. DD11 was asked by the cruise director to help lead water aerobics and she loved that. Nothing that was inappropriate for kids. We liked that there was more entertainment than just whatever movie is blasting on FunnelVision. Advantage Celebrity over DCL for us.

More in next post!

KIDS CLUB: Camp at Sea on Beyond is way smaller than Oceaneers or Edge. The whole thing was about the size of the Star Wars area on Wish. It was open 9-12, 2-5, and 7-10. They are split into age groups 3-5, 6-9, and 10-12. Each age group stays in a particular space within the club and they don’t mix. The 10-12 age group had a ping pong table, foosball, a table for crafting, and 3 video game console stations with bean bag seating. The 3-5 age group had the biggest space but I never saw a kid in there in the evening.

When we saw it, I was apprehensive because I thought DD11 would complain it was too small and boring. Biggest surprise was she ended up preferring it to DCL. There were about 10-12 kids in her 10-12 age group who came each night. She liked it more because they did activities together and it wasn’t just sit and play video games like her Edge experience was. She also thought the counselors interacted with them more and participated more (most likely due to smaller numbers and having set activities). They did ping pong tournaments, a scavenger hunt around the ship, crafts (origami, suncatchers, bracelets), movie night, etc. she went every night after dinner.

The 13-17 club is only open from 8-midnight though.

ENTERTAINMENT: Lots of it. We went to the illusionist/escape artist who had two different shows, the show Elements which was Cirque de Soleil type with acrobatics and aerialists, and Stage Door which was Broadway (Hamilton, Moulin Rouge, etc). The big production shows were incredible. The theater was in the round with a giant wrap around LED screen involved in the show (think the Sphere in Vegas but obviously not as large or immersive). The theater seating was more comfortable and spacious than DCL. We enjoyed the main shows more than DCL but I think that is also a function of how many times we have seen DCL and how it kind of repeats…there is only so many times I can watch Beauty and the Beast. There was also a comedian, a vocalist who made it to the semi-finals on American Idol, and some other singer but we didn’t go. We loved the acoustic guitarist at bars. They also had the various normal cruise ship activities—trivia, game shows (one was labeled 18 and up only), sketch classes, silent disco, a few marine biology education seminars, bingo, Deal or No Deal, origami class, and a q and a session with the captain. Advantage Celebrity over DCL for us. Disclaimer though is DD11 is kind of done with characters on DCL anyway.

OUTDOOR USE: I feel like DCL doesn’t have as many outdoor spaces. Beyond had outdoor seating for the buffet, an outdoor rooftop specialty dining place, a higher aft outdoor bar and lounge, and another outdoor bar off the side of the ship. They also had a large 2 story indoor aft space with floor to ceiling glass that was a bar and lounge with live entertainment, speciality dining area, and had seats for just reading, hanging out. We took a game up there one afternoon and sat with great views. Also had a large outdoor rooftop garden where they had Zumba, Tai Chi, meditation, pickleball, etc.

CLEANLINESS AND CROWDS: No difference. Saw many people constantly cleaning around the ship. It was in great shape. never really felt crowded either. We did go to the theater 20-30 minutes before a show, so around the theater there would be a line before a show. No lines to get into MDRs unlike at DCL where people start crowding around before meal time.

NICKEL AND DIMING: I see this a lot as a reason to avoid other cruise lines from DCL fans. We were never once approached or offered to buy a dining package, photo package, etc. Even at the bar I never heard a bartender try to sell the drink package to someone paying without it. Our only onboard charges were gratuities and our 2 specialty dinners.

PASSENGER BEHAVIOR: Also hear a lot how drink packages promote unruly behavior and how DCL passengers are better behaved. This was not our experience. Didn’t see one fight. Didn’t see one fall down, sloppy drunk person (and we went to a lot of bars). There were no groups of screaming kids running down the hallways (which I have seen on DCL). The fewer kids on the ship definitely made a difference in the overall atmosphere and relative calmness

Overall we loved our Beyond trip. All 3 of us voted it as our favorite cruise over DCL or NCL. The one thing we thought was a huge bonus for DCL was having a private island. Some Celebrity cruises go to CocoCay. We are all excited for the Treasure, but we put a placeholder on for Celebrity.

Interesting - thank you for posting. We've asked several DCL employees about other cruise lines for service and amenities and we've been referred to Celebrity most of the time. This thread supports their referrals.

thank you. Beyond is a more popular ship, we did Adventure and didn't have as great of an experience. We would do Celebrity again however.

Thanks for this detailed review! We sail on the Edge this Friday, and it has me even more excited. I watched videos of the ship last night to get a feel for the layout, and it was hard not to miss the Disney aesthetic that I love, but I am particularly excited for new food options, and alternative to the MDR for dinner, and new entertainment. Having our grown kids in a different room (due to price) will also give us a lot more space and accommodate our different schedules better. I'm glad to hear it was as clean as DCL too, since that's a huge part of why I like DCL.

Check-in with Celebrity was so easy. I can't believe how ridiculous the DCL process is in comparison. I am also looking forward to virtual muster. I know it's a hot topic and I don't want to start a debate, but I am perfectly comfortable with it from a safety perspective. The only thing that I give a thumbs down to with Celebrity so far is the constant "sales" they have on everything from the cruise itself to excursions, leaving the customer wondering if they got the best deal or monitoring everything to make changes if they see a better deal. It's not a great customer experience. But I can look past that if we end up loving the cruise.

It doesn't sound like you used the buffet a lot, but did you notice how difficult it was to find seating, if there were long lines, etc.? Cabanas can feel a bit crowded and chaotic, and the quality of the food seems to have declined a bit post-pandemic, but I don't know if it is just me getting bored with the same food there.

Adventure isn't an Edge-class, correct? I keep hearing there is a major difference in experience between the Celebrity classes.

In going through it it seemed very easy to find seats. There is also an outdoor seating area. DH did go twice for made to order stir fry for lunch and don’t find the lines long. We went every afternoon for ice cream and line was 2-6 people each time.

I do think the last sea day they have a big seafood lunch buffet that got more crowded.

I agree about the sales, though if you book something and it goes on sale later you can get a refund. We booked our drink package and it went on sale 2 weeks later. So we cancelled it, got a refund, rebooked and saved $350

Have a great cruise! It was different than DCL but in a good way for us with new experiences. If you want Disney theming, characters, Disney songs, etc then it will be a struggle. While we love Disney, there is a point for us where the Disney stuff was not enough to outweigh the price difference and the difference in amenities. And we had our fill of it between parks and 2 DCL cruises last year. There’s on,y so many times we can meet Minnie and watch the Golden Mickeys. That being said, I am so ready to check out the Haunted Mansion parlor on Treasure!

I can’t find a Celebrity Adventure ship. It’s not listed on their website. maybe Adventure of the Seas by Royal?

Is this an Alaska cruise? Would love to get your review. We have done 5 DCL cruises mainly because our kids were younger and it was a good fit. We are looking at others now (they are mid teens) and NCL and Celebrity keep coming up. Having said that, we have only cruised Concierge on DCL and hear the suite level (not sure exactly what they call it on these lines) can be much better at a lower price. Would love to get your feedback. Have a great trip!!

Thanks! Yes, it's Alaska. It's not the most recommended line for Alaska, since Celebrity can't visit Glacier Bay, but we decided it would work for our first cruise there. We picked Celebrity because it seems to have a lot of what we value from DCL at a much better price, so it seemed like a logical step for branching out. We have two verandah rooms for the cost of one inside stateroom on DCL for the similar itinerary. It's concierge, but like @Mango7100 said above, there are very few perks. Aqua Class would be more comparable to DCL, but seem to offer even more than DCL benefits wise, such as an exclusive MDR with upgraded food. Aqua Class seems reasonably priced compared to DCL, but we decided to save the splurge for when it's just my wife and me. The other cool thing about Celebrity is that you can usually attempt to bid up to a higher class a month or so before your cruise, so there is no rushing to the port to ask for upgrades like on DCL. They give you a range and you pick how much you would be willing to pay and they award the upgrades to the highest bidders.

I will be sure to post about our experience compared to DCL.
