I was wondering if anyone could give me a little more info on Celebration. We've decided on our next trip to devote some time to exploring Disney outside the theme parks and considered checking it out. We are also not renting a car so if anyone has ever taken a taxi from okw, how much did it cost?

Celebration is a beautiful, upscale community, with very strict rules regarding the maintenance and upkeep of the homes and property. For example there are certain approved colors that the homes may be, regulations regarding what can be kept on the property, etc.
The community of Celebration is an almost totally self contained community. There is a hospital, self contained school system, community sports and recreational activities, stores, businesses, restaurants, a hotel, etc. All of this is located within a fairly small area, all considered the community of Celebration.
The homes are gorgeous, but are located on very, very small lots and are quite pricey. Celebration used to owned by Disney, but this changed several years ago.
We have gone to Celebration a couple times. It is interesting to walk around and eat at the restaurants. The town is very charming but sort of surreal also. I can't explain it but it is almost like the Stepford wives cookie cutter community.
We think Celebration is charming, pretty and a nice place to visit and have a relaxing lunch, but we would not want to live there.
Celebration is only about 15 min from WDW and very easy to find. I do not know the names of the roads, we just know it from memory, but there are signs almost as soon as you leave WDW property.

There is a very cool Sherlock Holmes shop in celebration that serves a full English tea.

OOPs, I just reread your post and saw you are not going to have a car. The taxi ride will be at least 15 mins from OKW. I do not know what it would cost because we never take taxis at WDW, but I know they are pretty expensive.
To tell the truth, if it was us, we would not invest in the cost of a taxi to go to Celebration. It is nice but not worth the cost of a taxi, but that is just us.
Have a great trip!

Check the pages about shopping and dining on Market Street in Celebration at the official website: http://www.celebrationfl.com/

I haven't been to Celebration since the town's early days. We enjoyed eating at Max's a couple of times, but that restaurant is now gone.

I put the addresses of OKW and the AMC theaters in Celebration into the Mears Transportation Taxi Fare Estimator. It calculated the trip distance as 7.4 miles and the estimated fare as $16.63 each way before tip — with the caveat, "Fares will vary depending on route taken, time of day and traffic conditions."

So you're looking at around $40 roundtrip. I'm not sure that's worth it.

If you are planning to devote some time to checking out things outside of Disney, I would definitely recommend renting a car. Not sure what time of year you're visiting, but a one week rental for a mid-size car for our upcoming trip was $118 including all taxes and fees. Something worth considering, since you'll probably spend that much on just a few taxi fares alone.

That said, I agree with the others who said that Celebration is beautiful town, but a bit Stepford-ish. We've never spent any significant amount of time there, just driven through to take a look, so I can't recommend any places to visit. I'm glad I went to see what it was all about, but I'm not sure that I would spend $40 to visit.

Enjoy your trip!

For a $16+ Taxi fare each way, you might want to consider renting a car form Alamo on site for a day.

Thanks so much for all your advice, especially estimating the taxi cost. I think we will skip it until next time we go and rent a car. I did not know it was no longer owned by Disney.
