Celebrating my Un-Birthday Disney Style-April 2010-New 5/3 - The TR has started!

First a little update on us... This week is school vacation but we don't have too much planned. We do have something fun planned for the weekend but the week will mostly be various appointments. We take both boys down to Boston to check in with the Developmental Pediatrician tomorrow. It looks like it's going to be a snowy week here, on & off. Luckily it's holding off until later in the day tomorrow so we don't have to deal with that during our rush hour commute into the Boston area.

I'll fill you in on our weekend plans later! :thumbsup2

Now the big resort decision... I think Tim & I have decided which condo we want… Sheraton Vistana Resort!

To refresh your memories, it was between Marriott Cypress Harbour, Sheraton Vistana Resort & Sheraton Vistana Villages. We agree that Marriott Cypress Harbour looks the nicest and we know how nice Marriott’s are, but it's the furthest away & the second bedroom has a queen bed and full pull-out sofa. We would prefer 2 beds in the second bedroom, even if it means they are both full-size. The 2 BR villas at both Sheratons have 2 full-sized beds in the second bedroom, but Vistana Resort is closer than Vistana Villages.

Vistana Resort has six possible sections we could be placed in, based on our Sunday check-in date & our unit size. The villas in most of the sections are larger than the villas at Vistana Villages. We are also feeling pretty good about the quality of the rooms at Vistana Resort… most of the units we could be placed in are recently renovated & look beautiful, with the exception of one area called The Palms.

After we make our exchange we can make specific requests. Most of the people who have posted on the DIS and some other sites say that their requests have been granted. Owners get first priority, paid guests second and exchanges third. We’ll be at the bottom of the list, but I’m hoping that if I list our choices in order we will at least not be placed in the section of the resort that hasn’t been renovated.

There is also one factor that I’m still unclear about... some of the villas are 2BR lock-off units. I’m not sure if these are considered equal to regular 2BR villa as far as an exchange goes. We would love to have a lock-off because they are much bigger and, even though two beds would be pull-outs, it would provide 4 separate sleeping areas. This would be nice since DMIL will be sharing a bed with K. With the extra living room area, they wouldn’t have to sleep in the same room with Jeff & Karen. DMIL would be willing to sleep in a pull-out bed for everyone to have more privacy. The lock-offs are basically two 1BR villas put together. One side is a little bigger than the other with the Master BR (king bed), master bath, living room with Queen pull-out and full kitchen. The second side is more of an efficiency type villa with a smaller bedroom (still with a king), bathroom and a livingroom/kitchenette. I think this would be the ideal layout… I’m just not sure we are eligible for a lock-out with our exchange.

On my request I will list a newly renovated unit first. Next, I’ll request a 2BR lock-out (in any renovated area of the resort), then list the other areas in order of our preference (largest to smallest). Hopefully we’ll end up with something from the top half of our list. I also have to think about whether we want to request a certain floor.

I was looking at my 2008 Unofficial Guide and noticed that it listed distances to each of the parks (in minutes) from not only Disney resorts, but also from many off-property resorts. It also ranked the resorts (on & off property in the same list) based on quality. In 2008 Sheraton Vistana Resort had a score of 84, but I knew that was pre-renovations. So I just had to run out and purchase the new 2010 Unofficial Guide (I had wanted it anyways…). I was happy to find that Sheraton Vistana moved up the list from #62 in 2008 to #16! The only Disney resorts listed higher than 16 were: Kidani Village, BLT, CR, GF & The Poly. The quality score for Vistana Resort also went up from 84 in 2008 to 92 in 2010. Marriott Grande Vista, where we stayed in 2007, was ranked #14, also with a score of 92. Marriott Cypress Harbour (one of the contenders) was somewhere around #60, with a score of 86 - I was very surprised by this because I thought it was as nice as Marriott Grande Vista. Sheraton Vistana Villages isn’t in the book. :confused3

Mousescrapper had asked where Sheraton Vistana is located… according to the UG, it’s in the "I-4 corridor", which is very close to DTD.

For anyone interested, here is a comparison of the distances to the parks for various resorts. These times are parking lot to parking lot by car. I included some Disney resorts for comparison. To figure out the full commute time, condo parking lot to turnstiles, add 30 minutes for MK (since you park at the TTC), add 12-15 for Epcot and add 10 minutes for both DHS & AK.

This was a table I typed up in Word, but it's not formatting correctly here... Basically it lists the resort/commute times (in minutes) to MK/EP/DHS/AK.

Resort MK Epcot DHS AK
Sheraton Vistana Resort 11:15 6:30 9:30 9:00

Marriott Grande Vista (2007) 15:00 12:45 15:45 15:15

Marriott Cypress Harbour 17:45 13:15 17:45 16:15
(other option for 2010)

CBR (2009) 8:00 6:00 7:15 4:15
POP (2008) 8:30 6:30 6:15 5:00
SSR 14:45 8:45 18:15 14:30
Port Orleans 12:00 8:00 16:15 12:30
BLT monorail 11:00 17:15 14:15
Wilderness Lodge n/a 10:00 15:15 13:30

Now let's hope that Sheraton Vistana Resort continues to be available until I can make my exchange at midnight Wednesday night/Thursday morning. :thumbsup2 I'll let you know Thursday.

Coming up next: The big condo exchange!! Plus I'm sure I'll have some other stuff to talk about between now & Thursday...

By the way... We leave for Florida in two months from today!!:banana::banana::banana:

I need to get cracking on the countdown calendar!

How exciting to have a plan, it sounds really good. Looking forward to your update.

Your mid-winter break week sounds a lot like ours last week. Dentist, haircuts, etc.

:rotfl2:

exciting stuff.

Congrats on making the condo decision.

You really do your research:thumbsup2

Now lets hope that the exchange goes through and you are able to get what you want..

I THINK SunsetCliffs has a TR and she stayed at Sheraton Vistana and there may be some pix of the property. Let me find it and let you know.

Wow! I had a lot to catch up on!! LOVE the old pics as usual, Zach is a great artist, his Tigger looked awesome!!! Better than anything I could do!!! All your shopping finds look great!! It's so nice being able to cross things off that never-ending Disney list!!! That's also great that you finally know where you will be staying!! It sounds like a great place and the drive times aren't too bad either! And congrats on being under 2 months!!! It's always so fun when the countdown says 1 month, etc...:goodvibes

Yee-Ha on making a condo choice! I hope you get everything you want! :cool1:

Love the DHS wish list. We have yet to try the animation academy...I thought Isaiah would want to last year, but he didn't seem interested. Love the Tigger picture! :thumbsup2

Maybe Zach would ride TOT if you got him some of those soft ear plugs. Just an idea if the noise was the problem!

We love DHS too!! It s a great, easy park to tour. I think you are right to get the GAC's at the beginning of the trip for both boys then you don't have to go back to guest relations later.

The queue for TSM is just wonderful, it is so colorful and there are tons of things to look at. Hope you have fun at Teppan Edo, we really enjoyed it the times we went there. I think your "Wish list" for DHS is very doable.

I hope you get all your requests for your resort!! Doing the 2 month happy dance with you :banana::banana::banana:!

Two months!

:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Yay for making a choice and here's hoping it all works out! :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

Thanks Carissa!

Unfortunately I couldn't get the dentist in this week so they'll both miss a little school next week. Zach just has a cleaning but Alex has to have a tooth pulled! :scared1: He lost one of his upper canines prematurely because his mouth was crowded, so now they want to pull the other side so his teeth don't get too crooked.

We did get some bowling in today. :thumbsup2

Tigger was sort of a team effort - I'm not much of an artist so it was mostly Zach. ;)

Two more days until we know for sure where we are staying, but hopefully we'll get what we want.

Great idea about the earplugs... He'll have his noise cancelling headphones with him so I had thought about having him try it with those on. We'll be getting some earplugs too! :thumbsup2

Hi Tracy!! Thanks for the happy dance! The queue at TSM & Teppan Edo are two of the things we are most looking forward to! :cool1:

Unfortunately we'll have to make a second stop at Guest Relations either way... When we redeem our GAD voucher outside the park, before opening, we'll get a one day ticket. We then have to enter the park & then visit Guest Relations to upgrade to multi-day or AP tickets. But we don't want to waste time doing that since we want to see Mr. Potato Head. So we'll visit Guest Relations outside the park to get the GAC(s) then later, probably on our way out for the day, visit Guest Relations again to upgrade our tickets. We could either do it at DHS or later when we arrive at Epcot, before entering the park. Kind of a pain, but worth the savings!

It's Club Penguin all the time here for Zach! He loves it! I also got him the Club Penguin game for DS. We might give it to him at Easter, but now I'm starting to think we should wait until the day we leave for our trip so he doesn't play it too much before we go. Have your boy seen the new orange puffle yet?

Hi Amy! The boys were just telling me about the orange puffle the other day. Nick said it has been spotted here and there but only a few people have seen it.:confused3 They are very excited about it!! We got the boys the Club Penguin game for Christmas--they love it!! I'm sure Zach will too!! Good idea on waiting until the trip.

Oh and Congrats on your condo choice!!!:thumbsup2 Hope everything works out!!!:goodvibes

Hey Amy! We're supposed to get a "wintery mix" all this week; unfortunately the kids were both home last week!

Congrats on your condo choice and it's move up to #16! I'll keep my fingers crossed for the lock-off and the newly renovated section!! :shamrock: Sounds perfect!

hey Amy!
haha...just looked at the shirts you bought...we have the same shirt!! hehe... cool. anyway, i love your shoes too! They're sooo nice! I've gotta post a pic of my shoes too. they're Nike's also but they're like hot pink! Can't wait to see more!

:thumbsup2 for deciding where you want to stay. All your reasons make perfect sense. Hopefully you can get your requests.

If you have 2 months (from yesterday) then I must have 2 months & 1 week:yay: Everyone at work keeps asking me how many days & I usually can answer exactly how many weeks & days left.:)

Oh & I love the new Nikes:thumbsup2 That's all I wear on my feet while I am there is my Nikes. I probably should be thinking about a new pair myself!! I really have not given it much thought but I would need to break them in :rolleyes1

Are you ready for this next storm??? Hope you had a good trip into Boston today.

Yuck - I hope you don't get any snow days this week... It sounds like we are going to get mostly rain after some snow tonight. I was just happy that it held off until after we drove to Boston today. :thumbsup2

I need to wear both pairs of my new shoes more... I want to make sure they are all broken in.

It's very exciting to see my ticker under 2 months!! It makes it seem really close. :cool1: I can't wait for it to be under 1 month!

If you're getting new shoes - get them soon! :thumbsup2

Boston was good, but I'm always exhausted after those doctor visits! Yuck to more snow - luckily we are in the 2-5 inch zone & we don't have much to do... we are going up north on Saturday & staying overnight so hopefully the weather will cooperate for us. It'll be fun to see the 2 feet of snow they are supposed to get.

Since I am getting an AP this year, we'll also be getting a Tables in Wonderland card. From what I understand, this entitles us to free valet parking for dining. On Wednesday, 4/28, our MK day, we'll be eating dinner at Chef Mickey's at 5:35 pm.

If we don't take a mid-day break, we'll just leave our car at the TTC for the whole day and either take the monorail or walk to/from the CR for dinner.

If we take a mid-day break, I'd like to valet park at the CR for our Chef Mickey's dinner. How long can we leave our car there? I've heard something about 3 hours, but is that for regular parking or valet or both? I'd love to be able to leave our car there after dinner when we head back to MK for Wishes. It think it would also make it easier when we leave the park... we can just walk over to CR rather than fight the masses for a ride on the monorail.

So what do you guys think??

Today I took a road trip to Manchester to visit the Disney store!! :cool1: I'm sure I'll be back again before our trip because they didn't have any sleeveless shirts yet and I'll need some of those for Alex. But here's what I came our of there with today:

Oh that was day you called...I was suppose to keep you company

These are mine... The gray is to match the others and I just like the blue one:

100_0147.jpg

I like the blue one too :thumbsup2

I got these two super light weight sweaters too... The first I got at Lands End with the shirts & the one of the right I got today at Old Navy:

100_0150.jpg

I bought the same Old Navy sweater in cream the other day...I needed something that I could wear w/ my dress for my brothers wedding in case I'm cold..and I will be duh what was I thinking buying a short leg baring dress for early March...:confused3

I got these two pairs of shorts for Tim today at Old Navy, one has snapping pockets, the other has buttons. :thumbsup2

Um good idea!

Did you enjoy Lost this week? Do you think the black smoke monster guy/Locke can only get off the island if he goes with Jacob (or the new Jacob/Sawyer)? Jacob seemed to be able to come & go freely on his own, but it sounds like "Locke" needs the "good guy" to get him off the island?? :confused3

sorry we are behind because of the Olympics...but no worries I am so confused but what you typed you didn't give anything away...I will let you know once we watch...:rotfl2:

2010 Wish List: We don’t have a lot on our wish list….
• Toy Story Mania
• Tower of Terror
• Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster
• Indiana Jones – I think Zach will love this!
• Animation Class with Zach
• Visit the characters in the Animation area

looks like a great LIST!

doesn't look to bad...somewhat comparable to POR and yes it is faster to walk to MK than take the monorail from BLT ;)

That sounds like a valid plan to move your car to CR...I'd post your question over on the resorts boards...there has to be a CR fan's thread plus I am pretty sure there is some Diser called CR fan for life...he'd know :thumbsup2

J~

You can park at CR. There is a 3 hour rule as a guideline, but I think if you went over by an hour or 2, they wouldn't mind. It's about a 10 minute walk depending on how fast you walk from CR to MK. It would definitely be faster than the monorail.

I fell asleep watching Lost this week and haven't gone back to finish watching it yet...

I think the commute time from Sheraton Vistana Resort will be awesome!! :cool1:
