We are celebrating my dd's 7th birthday in August and are staying at AKL. Do they do anything for a birthday? If so, do I need to call ahead of time or let them know when we arrive? We are not staying concierge.

Thanks
Jodi

call the place that you make the reservations with and have them note it on your reservations.

then how much money do you want to spend - if you buy a cake then CM's have been know to send ballons and a card from your child's favorite character - just depends upon the CM when you check in.

when you fax your request to the room controller - mention it again.

Hi there ~ mention it again when you check in ~ they may send a character greeting card up to the room for her on one of your nights there.

AKL does not does not allow baloons at the resort because of the animals (or drinking straws either)

You could probably arrange a cake, hats, blowers etc... give guest services a call closer to the tme but there is a charge for this service.

You could also just bring the stuff with you fro home (decorations.. etc) and decorate the room when your daughter is at the pool or something so she is surprised when she gets back later :)

Have fun

If you want to order a cake just make sure to order it 24 hours in advance. We just celebrated our son's 9th birthday at AKL on July 16th. I wanted to have a cake delivered about mid-morning that day so that when we returned from the parks it would be there as a surprise. I just figured it was all done "in-house" and didn't stop to order it until about 2:00 pm on the 15th when we returned from the parks. Anyway... I was told that dining services needed at least 24 hours advance notice to get the cake made and delivered to the resort. The CM was real nice and told me to call back if I couldn't arrange something any other way. Well... (sorry to make this so long) I remembered reading on this board that 192 was just off a ittle side road from AKL, so early on the morning of our son's birthday my husband went to a Publix and bought a cake "from Goofy". We were able to sneak it in the room so that it was in fact waiting for us when we returned from the parks. It was a little more hassle, but the surprise was great and we had a $14.00 full sized B-day cake which we ate on for 3 days compared to a 6 " (3-4 serving) B-day cake for $12.00. All worked out well.

When you say "Do they do anything for a birthday?" do you mean will they reconize the birthday free of charge? If you have noted on your reservation that it is your daughters 7th b-day something might happen as others have posted but then again something might not. It is radom as to who gets free upgrades or free things for birthdays and other celebrations.

If you want to make sure her birthday is reconized I would reconmend maybe calling the WDW Florist or gifts of a lifetime and they can arrange for something to be in the room upon arrival and other things as needed. All for a price of course.
