Okay, most of the posts I've read about celebrating birthdays at WDW occur during the actual birthday. Well, DS turns 13 and 2 weeks later we will be at WDW. I am curious if it's still okay to let him celebrate in style at WDW. So far he has expressed no interest in doing anything special for the big 1-3...teenager birthday and that doesn't seem right to just let this milestone birthday go by without recognition.

His very first trip to WDW happened the same way and I didn't have a clue about all of the neat ways people celebrate at WDW...the only thing we did was...by accident...DS was a bit grumbly after the all day car ride to WDW and the CM at check-in overheard me saying the DS "you should be excited...this is your birthday gift" and asked if it was his birthday and I told her it was 2 weeks earlier, but was his gift from DH (who was still DB at the time). The CM said she'd take care of it...I had no idea. Later that evening we came back to the room and there was a cake, balloons, card, noisemakers, party hats...DS was really surprised!

So, I'm wondering if we could do it up for him some while at WDW even though it'd be 2 weeks past his actual birthday...

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks!

absolutely... why not?

When DS1 turned 6, his actual birthday was the day we were supposed to leave. Well, I got him the birthday button the first day we were there and he celebrated Birthday Week all week long. When CMs asked, we just said we were celebrating birthday week because it was his birthday week and the CMs loved this.

We didn't ask for anything special, but the look on DS's face was priceless enough. He was so happy and proud and beaming when he got all the extra attention. They gave him a little birthday cake at CRT, the barbershop quartet did a special song all for him, and the CMs would just wave and high-five him and say happy birthday wherever he went. That was truly the greatest time for him.

I celebrated my 20th b-day for my whole trip last August. It was a blast! :) I plan on going just on b-day this year again! Plus this time I'll be a CM! :)

Thanks! I was of the mind that it is fine to do so...after all we are celebrating his birthday...even thought of the t-shirt I'm going to make for the trip.

For DS, "My birthday was 2 weeks ago and all I got was this trip to Walt Disney World" and on the back the big cheshire cat grin....

For DH and me I'm not sure....DH says to put something along the lines of "Really, the trip is for us" and on the back "Don't tell"

Thanks again!

Absolutely! We are going down about 3 weeks before DS's 5th birthday in December (he was born between Christmas and New Years) and plan on celebrating the whole week! :cool1:

Glad to hear it...we'll be in the world 12/18 - 12/25...we'll be celebrating in spirit for your DS...

DS becomes a teenager in just a few wks
He & I are taking our first ever mother/son WDW vacation in Aug which is also our first ever 2 wk vacation!
He already said he wants to celebrate his belated birthday at Chef Mickey's, Cape May, Crystal Palace and Donald's Breakfastsaurus
I'm planning on surprising him with more celebrations too - just not sure where would be best

Happy Birthday to your DS - have a great time

Out trip Sept11-17 is a belated 5th birthday present for my DD from my parents. They took my DS and DN to DL when they both were 5. I have been the trip planner, because we all want to go. It started it out with just me my DH, DS, DD, and my parents. Then my youngest DB decided that him and his DW were also going to go. We all live in central Illinois. We then talk the middle DB from Phoenix into going with his DW and DS. It is going to be great family reunion. My DM and DN bdays are the week we get back and DD and DH are both 3 weeks after we are back. I would love to have a big birthday bash for them while we are there. Any ideas? :bday:
