OK Guys - I need some advice. I think I will post this in the Theme Park Strategies forum as well because I need all the help I can get.

We are going to DisneyWorld Sept 23-Oct 1; and my youngest daughter Lauren will be turning 2 on Sept 29. How cool is that to have your birthday at Disney??

We have it noted on our room reservation at CSR and plan to get the "Today is My Birthday" pin from all 4 parks. We will also be going to Magic Kingdom the day of her birthday, only doing the rides she can go on (no parent swapping on her big day), and attending our first ever Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party that night. We are having breakfast at Crystal Palace and dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern. We will order a cake to be served at dinner and have her "birthday party". AND I am having Peggy deliver a super duper birthday basket to our hotel filled with all sorts of treats. Sounds great and wonderful, right?

The problem is ~ I am worried about her big sister! Kaylie turned 7 on March 3 and she had a party at the skating rink (exactly what she asked for). She picked out her Hello Kitty cake, had lots of friends there, had a great time and lots of presents. BUT THAT'S NOT THE SAME AS HAVING YOUR BIRTHDAY AT DISNEYWORLD!!!!!

Kaylie has never been really jealous of her little sister, she loves her with all of her heart. I am just so worried she will feel "left out" during Lauren's birthday celebration. Does anyone have any idea what I can do so she will not feel like Lauren is getting all the Disney attention??? I am planning on getting a basket for her from Peggy as well, but what else can I do? We can not afford to go to Disney again in March for her 8th birthday, maybe for her 9th, but that's a long time! At the same time, I want Lauren to have a great birthday just like Kaylie did. So, another question is, does anyone have any other birthday ideas???

I would cut back on Lauren's birthday a bit. She's only two and will not appreciate or remember it. I would take that money and "celebrate" Kalie's birthday a few days earlier with a birthday button, a special meal and a cake. I usually don't reccomed that people celebrate a birthday when it's not really their birthday, but in this case I think it would go a long way to keep the peace.

We will be going to the Princess Storybook breakfast earlier in the week and we will make this "Kaylie's Special Day". We are not really spending any extra money for Lauren's birthday meals - we are on the dining plan. I do still want her birthday to be special even though she won't remember it!

My DD9 birthday is March 4th!!!

We went to 1900 Park Fare for my DD9's birthday a few weeks ago, and invited a friend and her parents to join us... (we live locally) - I ordered a special cake, and took Disney themed good bags for both the girls, but what I thought was nice there was that they gave both the girls Gold "Happy Birthday" tiaras. This way her friend felt special as well. They both proudly wore them while we enjoyed MK later, and her friend made sure that any one who wished her a happy birthday knew that it was her friend's day!!!

Maybe you could make a little "favor" bag for Kaylie to thank her for "attending" her sister's party with special Disney themed things... our girls had so much fun with the stuff that I put in them - and so did the characters... Pooh, Eeyore, Alice and Mad Hatter all had fun playing with the confetti - etc!!! This way she's getting a little something special too.

I think you plan sounds great - and the fact that you are doing the PSB for a Kaylie special day is a good idea.

I think that Kayle will enjoy everything that her little sister gets to enjoy and there really should not be too big a problem. I would make the basket a "family" snack basket and be sure that if little sis gets a special cup cake any place that Kayle gets to order a special desert also or you might can ask if you can buy another cup cake though I doubt they would charge you for it. The only other think I can think of is if Kayle really wants to go on a ride that baby sis can not ,even on her B-day, I would have one parent take her on it. Pretty tough to miss a favorite ride because it is sis's b-day.

Sounds like a dream trip...Have a blast.

:rotfl: We are going for my younger DD's 4th bday (she'll turn 4 on Sept. 30!!!) We'll be there Sept. 29-Oct. 4th and I too was worried how my older DD would feel (she'll be turning 6 on July 29). She is having a big bday bash here in the summer for her bday, but I was trying to come up w/ something to make a special event in honor of her while in Disney so she's not left out. I'd thought about the Princess Tea @ GF, but DH said NO WAY to the $225 fee.... I'll be watching this thread to get ideas :) :) :)

My advice (you can take it or leave it)
You already said you are going to let your older DD have her own "special" day, I assume it will have the same ground rules as the birthday girls, in that she will get to have the say on what rides to go on.
Make only the dinner meal with the cake the birthday girls meal. The other meals you have to eat anyway, but they do not have to be the birthday girls "special" meal.
Do not make MNSSHP about the birthday girl, make it about the family.

Maybe next time you go to WDW it can be for the older DD birthday.

Great advice. That is exactly what my plans are. We were not making MNSSHP part of the birthday celebration; it just so happens that is the only night it's occuring while we're there and it just happens to be on Lauren's birthday. Kaylie's special day will be just that - her day to choose what to ride, get a special dessert at dinner, pick out a souvenir, etc. The rest of the week will be family days for everyone!!

Make sure you take lots of pictures of both girls on their special days! That's how we all remember things best anyway. We celebrated my DS's 2nd birthday at WDW in January and pulled out all the stops, and he loved every second! Have a wonderful trip!

Why don't you celebrate the big sister's half birthday too? You will be a few weeks late, but it would be a lot of fun.
