Spotted a stack of 7 Fiestaware dinner plates at the thrift store yesterday. Didn't really want the whole stack because they were mostly colors I had, but I really wanted ONE of the plates because it was a retired color (juniper) that I didn't have at all (my aim is to eventually have at least ONE piece of every color they make).... so I bit the bullet and bought the entire stack (they won't separate).

Got home and took a closer look and realized that two of the plates that I quickly assumed were lemongrass (that I have plenty of) are actually chartreuse, which I have NONE of!! So there were actually TWO colors in that stack that I didn't already own! WOOHOO!

Pulled out the handy-dandy Bar Keeper's Friend and gave them all a nice scrub to remove the knife marks and they are GORGEOUS! So happy!

Checked out the prices online and figured out I essentially paid $13 for a stack of plates that goes for nearly $200 retail! WINNER! Hoping to sell the extras to pay for the ones I want to keep...........P

Good for you! That's so fun when you get a bargain on something so special to you! :rainbow:

I have replaced/supplemented my everyday dishes to the point where I have 25 plates in my pattern, all bought at thrift stores for 50 cents to $1 each. Comes in very handy when my large family is over for dinner. :grouphug:

I have been collecting fiesta for years (I have a ton and I use it all the time) and some of my early pieces have knife marks and whatnot. I had no idea about the barkeepers friend trick either!! I will have to pick some up and give it a try! :)

I'm so jealous. Congrats! And I didn't know about Bar Keepers Friend trick, thank you!

I cannot remember where I learned the trick, but that stuff works WONDERS! I thought about trying it on some really stubborn stains in my toilets (from iron in the water) and was absolutely FLOORED at how sparkling clean my toilets got! Not to say I didn't scrub like a beast, but it beats having to replace the toilets or apologize for the stains every time you have company!

Anyhow, I took a "before and after" type of picture of one of the plates (taped it down the middle and only cleaned half).... here you go! (It's amazing the little things in life that make me happy!).............P

Awesome find!

I wonder if Bar Keeper's Friend would work on my huge Pfaltzgraff set I've got? They are really old and look like the "before" in your pic... may have to test a small spot! Thanks for the idea!

Thank you for the tip with bar keepers friend for Fiesta dishes. I'm going to check out a few of my plates tomorrow. They are not bad at all but I do have some with marks.

Passing on for the toilets with severe staining - you can buy a pumice stick called Pumie Stone at Lowes and Home Depot for $2.49 that will very easily clean toilet stains. I was about to pay to replace a toilet when I found this stick. I didn't have to scrub all that hard.

I had heard of that (probably why I had the idea to use the BKF on the toilets)..... but I was trying to go with what I had on hand. But I may have to check that out next time I'm in town!.........P

I used BKF on my set of pfaltzgraff, because their website recommended it! I now use it on my Fiesta.

GUESS WHAT!!!!???? I just found a piece of RED vintage Fiesta at the Goodwill for $1 !!! (I only paid .90 because I have a discount card.) Looked it up when I got home and can confirm that the marks on the bottom tell me it is VINTAGE.... pre-1973!! And possibly even pre-1944! I'm super duper excited! Wish I could figure out how to tell for sure if it came from the 1936-1943 line or the 1959-1972 line. But anyhow.... WOOHOO............P

And another exciting Fiesta ware buy today..... wasn't a big bargain (it was in an antique co-op versus a thrift store), but I found a small green mixing bowl (I believe originally part of a nestinng set)...... used my BarKeeper's Friend trick on the bowl (dark scratch marks on the outside and TONS of "stirring" spoon marks on the inside and it looks beautiful!! Just wish I could tell if it were "original green" or the super-collectible/rare/desireable "medium green". Either way it (along with an older turquoise teacup and sauce) are in my collection now!............P

I have a question about Fista bowls. I bought some at a garage sale for 6 bucks. They are either serving or mixing not sure. But they have a metal ring around them. They do have the fiesta logo on the bottom. But does anyone know how old they may be? I have tried searching but can't find anything about them.

Can you share a photo of the bowls and the bottom markings? I've never come across any Fiesta bowls with metal rings, either in person or in any of my research. I'd love to see them and help you identify them!........P
