Ceiling fans being removed from the Poly!!!

It is pretty much a necessity living in Florida, especially if you want to save $$ on your electric bill. You can have your AC a couple degrees higher if you run fans to keep the air circulating. WDW way of looking at it, 1000 rooms with either a $100 fan or a $25 light fixture in each hmmmmm which one?:rotfl:

I never even noticed them. Did Beach Club have them? Did they turn on automatically when you switched on the light?

The Beach Club has them.
They removed them from the BCV renovation.
You have a switch to turn them on.
We missed it last Oct in our Villa

So I could care less about the bed linens going away and I think rugs are gross, but I like the fans and that's disappointing. On an aside, I've never had a room go warm because of the AC unit shutting off due to lack of motion. Believe me I'd know, as I sleep hot and set the room very cool, and would wake up if the room got too warm.

I'm not crazy about carpet either but I worry that the rooms will be noisier as a result. Getting rid of the fans is a shame.

We stayed in one of the new rooms at Coronado Springs 3 weeks ago and it had a ceiling fan. Loved the room.

I've stayed at numerous hotels around WDW and never realized they had fans. I just don't use them with A/C. And I grew up in Louisiana.

With AC at home you can adjust the temperature to your liking, but Disney wants to place control over that as well.

That is super disappointing! We consider it a huge perk to not have to pack a fan to bring with us!

Dislike removal of fans :(. We use them and set the AC a bit warmer. I don't like ice cold rooms, so use of fan let's me set room to my comfort level.
Guess we'll be setting AC cooler now. I can see the removal of fans is going to drive electric cost higher for WDW.

I've got 2 theories.

1. In preparation of going from the 3 current resort levels to location based classifications, they are bringing resort room amenities closer together. Which would also explain the Values getting towels at the pools, coffee makers in the rooms, etc.
2. The fans are dust collectors. Removing them and the carpets (so far only in resorts currently going through a room refurb, but will be the norm going forward) make it easier for housekeeping to keep rooms clean.

Or a combination of the 2.
They can take away levels and add towels and coffee makers, but still doesn't make a value any closer to a deluxe, and, giving the values a coffee maker, fridge and pool towels just brings them up to what any motel 6 would have.

I read the explanation about doing away with value, moderate, Deluxe - will not tie values to value pricing, mods with that pricing, but-- values have many times, most times have different pricing. Mermaid room, Pop and Allstars usually have different prices, even within Allstars price differs. The mods don't have same pricing. And the deluxe never had same pricing.

I guess I'm just getting annoyed with Disney taking away amenities like fans, bed runners, but still gouging you with continually higher prices.
I just saw an add for a new Universal Value resort, Aventura. 3 pools, hot tub, water slide, 314 sq ft rooms with floor to ceiling windows and inside halls for $114. Why does Universal manage to keep prices reasonable and Disney feel the need to gouge us?

So sad about taking out fans. We always use it. I hate cold AC rooms, so I can set AC to 70, run fan and be comfortable. It also helps keep electric costs down. It's also part of the South Pacific theming.

It's maybe just me, but It makes me sad about how they are taking all the special touches out of the rooms and making them more homogenized in theming. I loved all the small touches in the rooms. The Mickey desk lamps, the ones at YC & BC were so cute. Now could be a lamp at any Hotel. :guilty:

I can believe the Universal hotel starts at $114 but I bet that isn't its actual price very often.

What are bed runners?

I really do think the fans' removal is down to housekeeping. Hotels really don't like fans. They break too easily and they are really obnoxious to keep clean.

they also doesn't scream "modern" to anyone, and I would guess most people who are not from Florida are not running those ones in the deluxe rooms.

The only person I know who insists on using them uses them for white noise. I mean, she sleeps hot too, but I sleep hot and certainly don't need them if there's a/c. I've stayed at hotels with sensor a/c before and generally it's fine. It stays cool when it's dark and you're not moving around. I've also stayed places with fan and no a/c , and that's usually fine as well. But both simultaneously is overkill even in Florida.

I don't like the frigid room temps so the fan provides some air movement and white noise to boot. Dust, totally agree. As far as Design... there are Beautiful ones... southern plantation style etc etc that cost $$$... having them in Florida is quite typical, even outdoor lanai's.
It's obviously a cost cutting measure for disney not design driven. No surprise there.

Most if not all of the WDW hotels have them now. Honestly it depends what time of year we travel whether they are noticeable or not. During the cooler months, they are no big deal. During August they can make the rooms miserable at night

I agree. We didn't have a problem at the Poly but at the BC the AC kept turning off at night. I had to keep getting up to activate it. I was dying.

I always sleep with a fan so the ceiling fans in the deluxes is a huge perk.

 Not from Fl, always use the fans, at home and at disney resorts.

I did say most! My friend is not from Florida either, lol.

Do you miss them at other hotels? Do you see them often at hotels at all? I really don't see them often.
