Year after year, without exception, Cedar Point is voted the best amusement park in the world (readers of Amusement Today magazine). It is a massive, thrill-ride oriented park much different than what you would find in Orlando, with giant, record-breaking coasters catering to a bit of a younger crowd, although they do have a fine children's area. It is also a full-fledged resort, with hotels, cabins, pools, beaches, restaurant and bars - even tennis courts "on point" - that is, the park itself - a peninsula in Lake Erie, joined to the "mainland" by a narrow strip of land called the causeway. It is as beautiful a setting for an old-fashioned amusement park as you can find.
I too agree Halloweekends is the best time of year to go. Fridays are particularly fun - although they are only open from 6-11PM, crowds are light and you can do a lot. But remember, CP is NOT a theme park. Sure, they have haunted houses and fright zones, but their claim to fame is rides, not theming or decorations. Expect Disney or Universal and you will be disappointed. However, if you're into some chills - both scary and weather-related - along the most insane collection of coasters ever assembled, there is no better place on earth ...
