CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Are they talking about herd immunity any more? I know they said by April we could reach it, but that is not happening. Hopefully soon. I know we have to vaccinate fast. I wish they would open vaccines in all states to everyone. DH is eligible and I booked his appt. this morning. Hours later, I checked and its wide open for appts. I am not eligible yet and its so frustrating to see all the open appts but not be able to book one yet.

Okay, so April just started...also, Gottleib said yesterday we have 200 million people with natural and vaccinated immunity. We're very close.

Any news on the 12-15 age group? Im anxiously awaiting this for my high risk 15 year old and my soon to be 12 year old. I know the results from the Pfizer study came out- have they applied to extend the age groups yet?

I thought. had heard that in the fall would be the likely time frame for that age group.

That seems unrealistically far away, given that the Pfizer plans to submit their data imminently.

I had heard late summer, but then heard May for high risk 12-15, followed quickly by all 12+, assuming the FDA grants the EUA.

The timeline Pfizer stated was all kids 12-15 would be able to get their shot before returning to school in the fall. That is the latest i've heard.

I found this online about the 12-15 age group, hopefully it will be sometime in the summer:

If their (Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson) vaccines are shown to be safe and effective and regulators authorize them, kids 12 and up could be vaccinated before school starts in the fall,” Wood wrote.
“Realistically, young children probably won’t be eligible for the vaccine until late fall or winter at the earliest.

Google says Pfizer had results from their adult study November 9, and then filed for EUA in November 20. That was then approved by the FDA on December 11.

I would think a similar time line is reasonable for the teen trial, so they should be filing for EUA maybe the end of this week/beginning of next week, and then the FDA will take 3-4 weeks to review. It’s less data, but it’s kids, so I don’t think it will be any faster.

My understanding is that the company announcements about study results happen for financial disclosure reasons, to avoid insider information/trading - they then have to actually gather and write to the data to submit, so that’s why it takes so long to actually submit the application for EUA.

I read that for the younger kids trials, they’re first testing dosages for side effects and antibody levels, and then starting the placebo study. The dosage part is 5 weeks minimum (3 weeks between doses, 2 weeks after the second), plus time to dose and read results. Then they have to decide which dosage to use, actually dose all the kids in the phase 3 part (another 5 weeks), then wait for cases to happen or not. I assume that’s 4 months total minimum (but could be a lot more), and they just started on 5-11 year olds 2 weeks ago.

Same. And considering most schools are back in session in August for "fall", that means shots will have to start going into arms by June to get older kids vaccinated before school starts.

All jokes aside, here's the final word on the "March surge"

7 day MA on March 1: 69,300.
7 day MA on March 31: 65,600.
Unfortunately that doesn't give the same impression when you look at what is happening now.

This story was from yesterday and was discussing the 7-day average 'New York, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey together reported 44% of the nation’s new COVID-19 infections, or nearly 197,500 new cases, in the latest available seven-day period, according to state health agency data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Total U.S. infections during the same week numbered more than 452,000.'

I believe it's important to continue to talk about the decline in most of the states but keeping these states (MI, NY, FL, PA, NJ) experiencing rapid rises also in the discussion. Maybe MA is doing well (and a lot of states are) but some places aren't. But it's really nice to see states finally back to be at much more manageable numbers and nothing can take away from that :flower1:

From a new Gallup survey: only 21% of Americans over 65 say they are worried about getting Covid. This coincides nicely with the % of them that are vaccinated, but more importantly, it indicates they are heading back into society as they get their shots.
It'd be real nice if you started providing links to the information you provide. Not that I don't believe you but you frequently state things and leave out the links. It's not that hard to post them. Use the little "Insert Link" icon.

I honestly think many states will see one last short lived surge and then that will be the end of it. It seems to be making its way through the country in an erratic wave, but the states that previously surged are all WAY down in cases and hospitalizations.

The states surging now just hadn't previously seen a big surge (recently).

8 walk-up JNJ sites in the city of Tampa alone this weekend. There are two daily walk-ups within two miles of me, open daily with JNJ vax. If you want the vax in FL you can get it ASAP on demand.

Clay has had a ton of appointments at the Green Cove Springs site, with Pfizer. They are also doing a walk up vax booth at the Clay fair this week.
