CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Just want to point out, likely NO ONE will be *required* to get the vaccination at their place of work UNTIL it has received FULL FDA approval, not EUA. It is very difficult, legally, to mandate unapproved vaccines. You would have to get every person to sign an informed consent and seek it out specifically.

This is how they are handling this vaccine with the military. I had been under the assumption that our servicemembers would be among the first vaccinated, and it would be mandatory. It definitely will not be, not until full FDA approval.

I suspect there are legalities with mandating something that has only received Emergency Use Approval.

This totally makes sense!

Full approval won’t be for quite awhile I would think if not years. By the time it could be mandated I have a feeling we won’t feel the same need.

I wanted to share this article a former colleague wrote and shared on LinkedIn. I know him personally (he was my "commander" when I was a contractor for the Army). I respect him and the work he has done on Operation Warp Speed. I am one of those that is somewhat apprehensive about this vaccine but reading this is reassuring. He is someone whose opinion I trust. Please read this article if you are hesitant about a vaccine.

Thank you for sharing. I saved the article to share.

None of these trials have had enough time passed to show—or not show—any longer term effects. We only have preliminary data of the study endpoints being studied so far.

Just like with the topic of reinfection. We are only starting to see increases in the number of reinfections now that more time has been allowed to pass. Just in October, the general criticism was that there were only a few reported cases. Now, there are a few hundred reported cases.

Just give it some time. That’s why the full results of the current vaccine trials preparing for EUA won’t be out until a couple years.

We could see something or we could not once given enough time. For people to come on here and argue one way or another is pointless at this time. There is no conclusive evidence for either side.

I agree it is all preliminary. But what is the alternative that the skeptics like the two doctors trying to block the emergency authorization want? To wait a year or 5 or 10 so that we have conclusive evidence, and to hell with the pandemic we're living with in the meantime?

After I heard the vaccine was being released, did a happy dance, and started planning my trip to Disney and other toddler-related outings, it occurred to me "Wait, can babies be vaccinated as well?". Happy dance slowed to a 'happy sway' when I realized they are in a different category and may not be vaccinated until next fall. Wondering how this will impact reopening, schools, mandated use of face masks, etc. Was sooo hoping to have a Disney trip booked in 2022 but now I'm wondering if that's realistic.

I had the same experience. I fully expect vaccination requirements for international travel, and the speed at which the vaccine efforts appear to have been successful had me doing a happy dance. But that dance got a lot less happy when I started reading potential timelines for vaccinating children. I was hopeful that we could reschedule our Japan trip for either Christmas 2021 or summer 2022, but it sounds like it will take at least that long before a vaccine becomes available for my youngest.

I don’t know how it can be mandatory anywhere until there is enough available supply. (And at that point, will it even need to be mandatory?)

That's going to be the real question. Right now, everyone assumes companies will be gung-ho to require the vaccine in employees and, in some industries, customers. But by the time the vaccine is widely available, the tide may well have changed because as the pandemic comes to an end there will be more blow-back against such measures and the risk of not imposing them will be viewed as much smaller.

I know someone in healthcare that is feeling pressure to get it. I think, it's going to be more socially driven like not smoking, rather than formally required.

I'm really at the point where I hope we can move up in line if people in the groups before us don't want to get the vaccine yet. I'm just so done with it.

We're in the middle of a bit of a scary period in my family. My 76 year old Mother....who I haven't hugged for almost nine months...haven't been inside with her or my father either.....came down with symptoms on Sunday night. The only place she's been inside in the last two weeks was to see her primary doc for a UTI. No other patients were in the office, just the doc, and staff. So if she got this...she got it at her doctor's office.

She has fever of around 100 that is cycling up and down (but no higher than that), aches and chills. My first thought was maybe her UTI progressed to a kidney infection, but her doc doesn't think so. She's on Macrobid for the UTI. Covid test done on Monday....no results until tomorrow at the soonest, Friday at the latest (which is ridiculous if it takes that long). I think my Mom would be ok...she's healthy. However, she the primary caretaker for my 78 year old father who is end stage COPD and has very little lung function left. If he gets it....that's it for my father. So we're all on pins and needles praying that she doesn't have it so he doesn't get it. They're trying to "isolate" from each other, but it's impossible in their living situation. We're dropping off meals and things, but the problem is that it's a one bath house, small-is ranch house...they can't stay from each other. My father can't go *anywhere*...he's so high risk. And my Mom is now possibly covid positive. It's just a nightmare.

Talked to a friend today who has to shut down his small luncheon restaurant at the end of the year. He isn't going to make it...out of money. It's just one of those days. Anyway....these vaccines can't come fast enough. Sorry for venting.

I have less than zero worry about taking my 14 year old daughter with us on an extended vacation if we are vaccinated and she is not. She's more likely to get the flu (WITH the vaccine) or food poisoning than get sick from Covid.

I’m sorry to hear about your mom. Macrobrid never works for me, even when the culture says it should. Just thought I’d share that even if the doctor is confident that the antibiotic is a good match. Hopefully, the COVID test returns soon and it’s negative.

We're not having Christmas on my mom's side of the family and they didn't have Thanksgiving, aside from my mom I haven't seen any of those relatives on that side since last Christmas (multiple get togethers were taken out by COVID this year) so at this rate it'll be quite a bit while longer. I understand the frustration.

Best wishes for your family's health :flower3:

I believe the two scientists have a good point about more testing needing to be done. The link to their petition I posted is worth reading for anyone considering getting the vaccine. I just believe in informed consent, given all of the possible side effects and adverse reactions, what it has and has not been tested for, what happened during the early animal trials. Then the person can make up their own mind.

Bullying people to get a vaccine that has skipped the typically lengthy process of testing (average 10 years) is irresponsible, in my opinion.

To be acceptable into the trials you can not have ANY MEDICAL condition, must have perfect BMI, and perfect blood pressure measurements. 56% of the people who applied were rejected (Moderna).
https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/record/NCT04283461
Here's the results of the perfectly healthy ideal 85 people:

Age 18-55: 71% OF PARTICIPANTS HAD AN ADVERSE REACTION

Age 56-70: 50% OF PARTICIPANTS HAD AN ADVERSE REACTION

Age 71+: 70% OF PARTICIPANTS HAD AN ADVERSE REACTION

I don't know the requirements of the Moderna trials, but I can tell you definitively, that someone who is overweight (bordering on obese) with some high blood pressure readings was accepted into the Pfizer/BioNTech trials. They also accepted one who is a Type II diabetic and one who had open heart surgery 2 years ago.

My mother in law is in stage 4 of kidney failure and was accepted into the J&J trial. J&J is specifically expanding their over 60 participants and well controlled long term diseases are accepted.

Same. But vaccine requirements could be the wild card there. There's been a lot of talk about whether proof of vaccination will be required for concerts and sporting events and air travel and such. If any if that comes to pass (and my personal feeling is that it will for international travel to resume, though I don't think it is as likely for domestic travel or venues), it will mean parents with minor children will have to delay doing those things for, conservatively, another year or year and a half.

So I'm sure there will be people pointing to the news this morning of 2 people having anaphylactic reactions to the vaccine and saying no one should get it - yes it happens. It happens with all vaccines. It made the news because this is in the news right now.

You should make your provider aware if you've had anaphylactic reactions (to anything) in the past before getting vaccine. Also now providers will have epinephrine on hand knowing this is a possibility (which I'm sure they did anyways).

I thought it was no one with a history of reactions should get it. Not that NO ONE should get it.

I didn't say no one should get it. I'm saying people may panic and say that.

“Both staff members reportedly had a significant history of allergic reactions and carried adrenaline autoinjectors, according to PA Media. Thousands overall are believed to have been vaccinated in the UK on Tuesday.”

I’m sure there will be lots of people posting on Facebook the dangers of this vaccine.

True. Wonder if the requirement would be 18 and over w/ under 18 wearing a mask?
