I would agree. Disney is a shell of what it was right now. It is still Disney so you can definitely have a great time but if you only go once in awhile, I would wait - especially since everything is still full price.

We have DVC and AP's and have been twice - Food and Wine in the Fall and Festival of Arts in February. The EPCOT festivals actually have not been too far from normal. We are planning to head down next week for another short trip for Flower and Garden. I had my first shot (Pfizer) last week and we are hoping to get the first shot for my wife before we leave on Sunday. CT is now opening up everyone on 4/1. It is gonna be tough to get her an appointment with the whole state open.
I would honestly wait before you go down to WDW. You don't really know how your wife is going to feel after her first dose and then the pressure to get her vaccinated.

I would choose either/or. Either go on the trip or get her first dose.

Plus at least when I got my first dose they wanted to make sure you didn't have covid or have been exposed to covid within the last 14 days and if you had you could not get your shot. I would say if you're going on the trip you'd want to test once you get back.

IDK that's a bit too much risk if it were me. My vaccination is a priority over a trip at this point and for you guys you have APs too. YMMV

Another data point on vaccine equality by race. The Detroit Lions stadium is now a vaccination site capable of handling about 6000 patients a day. So far, the people vaccinated there have been 72% white/14% black, in the heart of a city that is basically the inverse of that (78% black/14% white). Whether that is because of vaccine hesitancy among Black residents or because they are using take-it-or-leave-it scheduling and an online registration system is anyone's guess, but clearly just putting the sites in minority communities isn't enough to ensure equitable vaccination rates.

Do you think the impact of the Detroit mayor refusing to accept the J&J shots have any impact on getting the vaccines administered?

I agree with this point. If you've waited this long wait for a vaccine it would be the only thing I care about. That trip can wait. And reading that have you had a vaccine thread there are so many different things people have experienced both with the first and second dose. Some people have had a really rough time with the first dose some with the second some had about the same experience with both.

If you've come this far and you're really wanting a vaccine there's just nothing that would stand in my way. A trip, and with annual passes, can be pushed off. I might even push it a bit more out and wait until I had full immunity from the second dose if I could. With all the struggles people have had just getting appointments, all the stress and worry, there just isn't anything that would come in the way of me getting that vaccine (and ideally both doses and time for immunity). Plus the trip may be even more relaxing knowing that big hurdle is behind you! :flower1::flower1:

I can assure you, you will feel WAY more relaxed at Disney World having had both doses.

This is the problem with social media and everyone thinking they know more than everyone else. You have no idea what my situation is or my wife's. How about "enjoy your trip and be safe" and leave it that rather than try to preach to me what is best for me. My wife and I will make the decision about what we feel comfortable doing and what we do not just I am sure you will for yourself and your family.

And if you must know we are leaving CT on Sunday but not going to Disney right away. We have actually spent much of the winter down in FL since we had access to a relative's empty house and we are working remotely. I am actually going to be working next week in FL...

Wow. I don't think anything anyone wrote here was directed at you. My comment certainly wasn't.

I took the "you" in your comment to mean me since you were quoting quotes directed at me.
My friend, I didn't even know the thing I was quoting was directed at you- I was responding only to the person who's comment I quoted.

You've seen enough of my posts to know where I stand on this: People should do absolutely everything they personally feel comfortable with. Period.

I agree that it’s socioeconomic. My poorest friends from where I grew up have no plans to get it

I spent about $10 in gas to drive to my mass vaccination site.

I'm sorry you're the one who shared your concern about getting an appointment for your wife, I was just sharing my experience with what they asked when I got my first dose 2 days ago and that reactions really vary. Either way you're taking it way too personally TBH as if it's a slight against you. It's not about social media or whatever. You shared the information..should I not be taking your word on what you wrote? Quite confused here..

With no skin in this game, it appears you took something entirely too personally that wasn’t meant that way. People were offering advice of things you may not have been aware of.

It’s also the way message boards work. People share things and other people respond. They’re not going to always agree. People offer their opinions/advice all the time - take it or ignore it. That’s your choice. But it’s not fair to share something here and then get upset when people respond.

I do not believe at all you should be responding to us three like you have. I was just discussing the topic that was brought up. I'm sorry if something any of us said upset you, I don't think we were trying to do that at all :flower3:

The band Guster is on CNBC right now talking about concerts and festivals in the post Covid world. Very interesting stuff as we see what the world might look like soon.

To the underlined yes.

This is from the paperwork we got (there was more but the rest didn't pertain to what was being talked about) and I stand corrected it was positive for covid in the last 10 not 14 but exposed to was 14 days and it also stated been to a high risk covid area in the last 14 days and Orlando and Disney World are what I would consider high risk even with all the precautions (and I was going off of what was written). I was just giving the info from our place. We had to e-sign that we acknowledge them when we made the appointment and they repeated these questions to us before we could get our shot.

Maybe places are doing things differently that's a possibility but I was just sharing what occurred for us.

Opening up everything and getting rid of restrictions because they see the trend going downwards is akin to going on an eating binge and back to previous eating habits after having lost a lot of weight. Makes no sense.

Should people who went on a successful weight loss program return to their pre-diet program eating habit or maintain a healthy diet plan?

This is an awful comparison, because maintaining weight loss takes perpetual vigilance, and it kind of sounds like you're making the case that there's no such thing as "contained enough" to ever relax restrictions while covid still exists (which is likely forever).

The state next to me is now partnering up with transit options to provide predominately free options or to a lesser extent reduced fare because: "In Missouri, we recognize there is a significant amount of older adults, people with disabilities and low-income individuals who are at higher risk of contracting the virus and don’t have cars, don’t drive, don’t live near public transit and live in rural areas far from vaccination sites." Much of our area at least in KC is not really public transit outside of buses which are not an encompassing public transit to traverse the metro (I don't count the street car as that is just for a portion of Downtown) though STL has more options. The article I was reading within the last few days said that was also a main contributor for the minority community of the state next to me that transportation options were a roadblock.

I don't know the stats for when Arrowhead was used as a mass vaccination site for J&J but I bet you transportation was an issue there in addition to the fact that it was only used for those who were residents of Jackson County (which does have a high minority makeup in terms of percentages) or ones signed up through the state's vaccine locator. It was a good usage of J&J IMO but not in terms of targeting the minority community.

Transportation is probably an issue here too, because Detroit is a nightmare when it comes to public transit. We have a bus system, sort of, and Ford Field is probably as good as it gets as far as accessibility via that system... but it can still easily take hours and several transfers to get there from some of the city's poorer neighborhoods. I think the church-based weekend clinics are far more likely to connect with residents of those parts of the city than any central mega site could.

Do you think the impact of the Detroit mayor refusing to accept the J&J shots have any impact on getting the vaccines administered?

I don't think so. Too much was made of his comments, which were themselves inseparable from the hesitancy we're talking about; he made those comments in the context of already having more Pfizer/Moderna supplies than there was interest among city residents. I don't think that's changed; to get the black/white ratios they're seeing at the big vaccination sites, there have to be more people coming who qualify based on their place of employment than actual city residents.

They're not asking that here... which makes sense, since it really doesn't get any higher risk than our county and they'd almost have to pause vaccination altogether because of the ridiculous levels of community spread that are occurring if they excluded people who had been in high-risk settings. I'd probably be safer licking handrails at WDW than going to my neighborhood grocery with the unmasked masses right now.

They aren't excluding you at least if you mean barring you from making the appointment by a system block but they want to you to not make the appointment or attend it if you have. They don't care about you per se (I mean they do but they don't if that makes sense) but they care about exposing hundreds if not thousands of people. I'm sure people still make appointments and whatnot even with knowing internally they can answer yes to one or more of those questions but at least they ask on their side. They consider our metro still having covid risk here that it can easily get out of control again but I get what you're saying for your area.

Yeah I agree with this. Seems especially the case with the Black community in our metro that they really try to reach out to the church communities trying to bring mobile units if they can as well as work strongly with church leaders. Not a perfect system for sure but it's more of targeted approach to specific cultural differences and access issues that occur with an area not really set up for great public transit but to your point you're totally right about time it takes even with transit with transfers and distance.
